… and can I get the old format back?
Thank you.
This was posted under a mac os question but also works on Windows
brave://flags/#brave-ntp-refresh-enabled
Much better when I disabled it! ![]()
Gee that was quick. Thank you. ![]()
@Meeker-Morgan as Kanga mentioned, it’s a new update. For now you can disable it via brave://flags but eventually that will go away. The newer design is a lot of things people have been requesting for a while. It frees up a lot more space, allows us to have more favorites visible at once, etc.
Anyway, if you disable it will give you the old one. But I want to be very clear that eventually it will probably force you into it.
That’s a shame for me.
I really do not want the clock in its new position on the left - would be good/nice to have the option to move to a few set places. Also I think it was smaller - or appeared that way?
I even had to hide the stats but that’s no real loss.
I can understand why people may want it but for me not needed on a desktop.
New layout is awful and don’t blend well with my background. If they force it in then I’ll just have to toggle off everything like search/top sites/stats.
Thanks for clarifying it’ll eventually go away. That’s a concern as I’ve been having a bug with the new layout where I cannot add a new site but this flag helps me work around it.
I’m using Nightly, I already have 20 favorites, when I go to add a new one (after the layout change), I get “undefined” (there’s no option to save as well) no matter what I type in the name or url text boxes.
However when I revert back to the old layout I can add new sites no problem. I switch back to the new layout and the issue persists, although the sites I added in the old layout have been saved for me to use in the new one.
I’m new here, could you tell me is reporting bugs only for stable builds?
Hi @Jolly - Thanks for reporting. I believe this issue will be resolved in the upcoming 1.85.32 release https://github.com/brave/brave-core/pull/31611
That’s great to know, thanks Evan!
@Saoiray the new tab page actually has even less information. I would like the new design if it would show more favorites, but for me the new layout only shows one row of 6 instead of 2.
How can I make it show me more favorites?
Edit: Found it, it’s in the context menu with the 3 dots, next to the favorites. Is there a reason this is not the default? Especially after updating from the old one.
how are they this bad at formatting a page? the old one was ok but if the new one gets rolled out im done with brave
@afdsfv this entire thread has the answer to that question among many more.
Closing this thread as it’s run its course.
Why does the NTP look different?
Because we updated the design recently. The new design has everything the previous one had plus more, allowing for more top-site/favorite tiles to be added to the NTP, has a minimal look with less clutter over the image being used and will be easier to implement new cards/widgets/features in the future.
I don’t like it, can I change it back?
For now yes you can. You can visit brave://flags, search for New Tab Page Refresh and change the value for this flag to Disabled. Please note that there will come a time in a future update where this flag gets removed and everyone will be using the new layout.
