More New Tab Page User Customization

TL;DR: Let us choose how the New Tab Page is Setup More Specifically & Don’t Forget to add your Vote Above if you agree!

(Not entirely sure where to put this, if admins want to relocate this post that’s fine)

To piggy back on the below post, please allow us, the users, to customize the New Tab Page to our own personal liking.

It would be nice to be able to have:
Search Bar,
Top Sites (Favorites / Frequently Visited),
Brave News,
Clock,
Brave Cards (Stats, VPN, Rewards, Talk)

Placed where we want them, how large we want them in certain places, etc.

Give us sections and/or options where we can drag the areas/sections to our liking, maybe in a somewhat similar way widgets are used on most OSs.

I personally would rather have:

Brave Stats - Centre Top (as it looked before but in the centre, not as minimized in size as it is now)

Clock - Top Right (Larger then options previous and now), it could be stretched as wide as the entire Tab Screen or as small as it is now with the Top Sites Expanded, it could go in the background behind the Top Sites, etc.

Top Sites - Centre / Middle / filling the screen - WITH our choice of multiple rows and columns.
Basically, NOT JUST 2 rows & 6 columns as before (& on the left), OR
1 row & 6 columns OR 2 rows & 12 columns as it is now (also making the Clock TINY)
AND I know you can scroll to the side for more, but scrolling for more has been and is super annoying, especially when there is so much empty space that could be used for more helpful things.

Let us choose where the Search Bar goes and how wide it is, I used to have it below but with the setup now I’ve just had to disable it to try and see the STATS, which is still difficult to see, and honestly not much reason to use the search bar when you can just as easily search via the address bar with custom %s searches.

I don’t really use: Search Bar (much anyway), Brave News and the other 3 Cards (But I’m sure some people would also appreciate being able to seperate the 3 Cards from having them all in the same section with tabs for each and likely like them in difference places as well).

Anyway I think you get my point by now.

And of course, you can still leave room for New Tab Page Ads in a specific area or allow us to choose where they go, maybe making a cut off within the Tab Screen, so people aren’t hiding them off screen and still getting credits without even being able to see it.

Anyway Thanks for your consideration and don’t forget to add your vote above!

I see now there’s a lot of other people complaining about the redesign of New Tab Page, might I suggest pinning a Topic, doesn’t have to be mine, since it is a rather big change and lots of people are having the feelings about it, and to add Disabling THIS flag can help it go back, I’m assuming (at least temporarily) to the old design: brave://flags/#brave-ntp-refresh-enabled

I suppose you have this one going already, maybe PIN this one?

A FIX FOR THE ISSUE (if you don’t like new look)

If you are here because you don’t like the new, er… “New Tab Page” layout/design, you can revert back to the old layout/design by going to:

brave://flags/#brave-ntp-refresh-enabled

Leading to “New Tab Page Refresh“

Mark the field to the right as “Disabled”

Then clicking “Relaunch” at the bottom right as it prompts you after making a change

(Your changes will take effect the next time you relaunch Brave.) — RELAUNCH

And voila, back to the way it was before.

Note: It might be only temporary and we might eventually have to get used to the new look and/or hopefully some changes can be made to please everyone (as I suggest above  ).

This is a nicely written feature request.

It is worth noting that, as anyone who has ever developed software knows, there is no way to make a feature or product that satisfies everyone or every need. The goalposts almost always get moved and this is a great example of that. For a long time, one of the most frequent requests/complaints we’ve received is the ability to add/display more top-site icons on the NTP.

Now that we’ve done exactly that (from 6 or 12 icons displayed → up to 24 icons displayed), the issue is the placement of it, or the size of the icons, or “Why not let the user have infinite rows?”, etc. To clarify, it’s not that these types of requests are unreasonable or impossible, but they do not happen over night. They require a ton of design work, testing and approval.

However, by implementing the most recent iteration of the NTP, it allows us to more easily implement further changes and customization options – such as the one’s you’ve listed above – in future updates.

I will be forwarding reports/requests like this to our dev and design teams for future consideration.

I very much appreciate it @Mattches I do understand that what I’m asking for is a lot and certainly don’t expect it overnight (and/or within the next year even really, modifying G**gle’s code and Brave’s that much to give us THAT much customization, I can only imagine being a huge headache), though I personally have no idea how to implement that, I can respect it’s difficulty, it’s far beyond my skill set.

…and that of course not everyone would agree with how I or you would personally prefer things, but if it is ever able to get to that point of customization would be amazing.

Again, thanks for listening to us and more specifically me, here, and passing it along, look forward to what you have in store for us.

And apologize if there was any frustration coming through in any of my posts… as I said somewhere… I, too, don’t always deal well with change :face_with_hand_over_mouth: :face_with_peeking_eye:

yes! PLEASE READ ! as a disabled person i rely on tthe BIG CLOCK on the NTP (centered). its a bigger issue than abled people ccan imagine. my eyes and most of my body are not ok, i cannot go thru the actual pains oif searching//installing anything else just to ssee abig clock all day. please give us a reason to stay with brave. thanks.

due to illness /disability im unablle to reply or read replies. please help with this even tho i cannot reply.

Something interesting I noticed today after a restart…

brave://flags/#brave-ntp-refresh-enabled is now Disabled as DEFAULT… is this just me? Anyone? (I switched it back to the new look to try and get used to it after what Mattches shared above).

So it’s not just me then: Favorites icons have been raised TOO high physically - #3 by coz
