Well Brave has turned on the dreaded Split View again but removed the ability to turn it off.
Or just hidden it!
You used to need to go to brave://flags/ and search for split but that doesn’t work now.
So how do I kill this stupid option once and for all?
It wouldn’t be so bad if it had been added to the bottom of the right click menu, or above the TOR option, but instead you replaced the open in new window and shifted it down. As a user I have my browser windows set to the width I want to work at, this split view screws that up.
Hmm, yes and no. This is Chromium. If you check Chrome, you’ll see the same thing there. So it’s an upstream change rather than it being something that Brave has done.
Because it was still new enough and it was there in case it broke anything. Once it becomes stable, it gets removed from the experimental flags.
You can’t. At least no simple “front facing” ways. It would require edits to the code and not really “simple.”
The only thing that stays the same is that everything changes.
People make requests, improvements are made, etc. Not everyone is going to like every change but that’s just part of life as well. They can’t and won’t put in a million different options and varieties into things as it would be a lot of money, time, and would increase the chances of things breaking.
Thanks, but it is such a stupid change, it makes no sense.
It would be fine if it wasn’t in the exact location that users have years of muscle memory of the new window.
I actually know no one that likes or intentionally uses this function. Every one has larger monitors and if they want/need a split view they open another window and adjust as needed, without screwing up the look of all the other tabs they may have open.
Split View in general or the idea of changing the context menus like they are?
There are quite a few people on devices asking for split view for a long time. I could potentially link, but I think you may be able to find as well. But example would be Please add Tab Split View (Just like Arc browser has)
I agree. There are a lot of design choices that both Chromium and Brave make that defies all logic. I have no idea why they do it. Wish I had a better answer on that one.
Is there another secure browser that doesn’t have split view? I’ve loved Brave for a lot of years but adding split view to the context menu just drives me crazy.
