How do I remove "Split View?"

Description of the issue:
How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Right click on a link and the option to open the link in “Split View” is presented.

I do not use this feature and would like to remove it as an option when right-clicking on a link. How can I do this?

Agree 100%. I do not use this feature and probably never will.

I’ve used Brave for a long time and this only started happening within the last day. I frequently right click to open links in a private window, but this new addition moved everything down and now I’m constantly clicking on “Open link in a new Window” instead. This is really painful and causing me lots of issues.

  1. While browsing Amazon I sometimes want to read about a product ‘incognito’ instead of having it added to my list of items I looked at and then end up getting recommendations I don’t want.
  2. I also frequently use this when browsing YouTube videos so I can check things out without telling YouTube to start recommending similar videos.

*I’m sure this is a great ‘New’ feature for those that want it, but for those that don’t it would be great to have an option to remove it.

I couldn’t agree more. It would be one thing if they moved it down the list. Every page I have right clicked on this morning is opening in split screen because that is where open in a new window has always been. I’m sure some users will like this feature but not for me.

I found the solution to this vexation on a Reddit thread. Go to “brave://flags/” in the URL address and a page will pop-up titled “Experiments.” Enter “Split” in the search, and change the option “Split View” to “Disabled,” then restart Brave.

I don’t know how long this will work, but …

Type “brave://flags” into the Brave Address Bar

Type “side-by-side” into the Search Flags omnibox

Split View is one of the available options. In its dropdown box, select “Disabled” to get rid of that option.

ReLaunch The Brave Browser and the “Split View” option is no longer visible in the Right-Click drop down menu.

I created an account just to say thank you for posting this fix.

The sudden shift in the menu was really messing me up. Feels like every browser has “new tab” and “new window” as the top two options.
I right click and open in new window all the time. I never use split view.

After a couple of hours of accidentally launching split view and having to fumble to close it, I was pretty much on the verge of switching browsers.
So thank you :raising_hands:

Another thank you for this fix! I hate the split-window view and muscle-memory keeps making me click it when I really want to open in a new window. Very frustrating until your fix; I created an account here just to say thank you.

…and also that if this ever becomes a forced “feature” that i can’t turn off, i will immediately jump ship to another browser. this HAS to be one of those “hey look at this thing we can do that WE think is neat and so now it’ll be YOUR default” things and not on any kind of actual user feedback or testing.

It’s a great feature and could be VERY useful.

But it taking the place of “open new window” is absolutely brutal
All that needs to happen is it go to the bottom of the list of the open link options
