I find the spit tab view to be EXTREMELY annoying. I’m sure to some its a great feature but not for me.
I would like to remove the menu option from the right click context menu when opening a link as a new tab or window and essentially disable that functionality.
Bottom line if you are going to add a visual feature you need to have the ability to disable it. Not everyone will find it useful or visually appealing.
Thanks for that, it was driving me crazy as well. Wish there was a way to disable anything we wanted in the context menu (add tab to new reading list, add tab to new group, etc.), but I guess Brave can’t be customized for every user.
Why has Brave removed the ability to disable the split screen option in the right click menu. I don’t use it, I don’t want it and it makes for very frustrating browsing when you need to open new windows in my work. I don’t mind that Brave want to create tools to help some people but at least allow us to remove the tools we do not need or want or use.
I find split view very annoying, I realise some people might like it but I do not! and I can’t understand why were no longer allowed to turn it off if we wish too??
Brave hasn’t been bought by Microsoft has it? (You know with the enshitification of everything , sort of thing)
After so many years clicking the second item down in the dropdown list, and expecting a new window to automatically pop up, it is extremely frustrating to have a split window pop up instead. In Chrome “Open in Split View“ can still be disabled. Please add an option to disable “Open in Split Window“ or have the option to move it further to the bottom of the dropdown list if there’s some reason that it absolutely must appear in that list. I rarely post in forums, but felt I had to sign up especially to post this. Please add a “Disable Split View” option. Thanks
@Darth_Binks correct. This is a Chromium change and you’ll notice the same behavior in Edge, Chrome, etc. They removed the flags upstream and it’s now just a core part of the browser. Brave would have to do some “lifting” themselves to try to implement their own changes.
Otherwise people would need to be vocal and hope Chromium can add something. There’s usually a lot better chance of it being fixed upstream than Brave dedicating their limited resources to it.
I’m sure you’re right, but in Chrome it’s still an experimental feature, and I have “Split View“ disabled in the chrome://flags area. There is no equivalent place to disable it in Brave any more (I understand you used to be able to disable it in brave://flags). Maybe I’m running an old version of Chrome (Version 144.0.7559.133) …and in looking for my Chrome version, it just updated - I hope that doesn’t remove the split view option from Chrome now. Fingers crossed!
At least I know @Mattches and some of the dev team are seeing feedback. They may create an open Github issue if one doesn’t exist and it is always something “to be considered.” I just know Brave is a bit random on what gets their focus, with the only guaranteed stuff being things that “break” stuff.
For lack of a better train of thought and word choice right now, this is more like a cosmetic request. It’s not actually impacting the privacy, security, or performance of the browser. So that tends to mean it becomes a low priority thing that just gets worked on in spare time, if ever. Or to rely on contributors who can help with the code.
I guess we’ll see how this falls. But I do agree that it would be nice if they could add a toggle to disable Split View for people who don’t want it. And/or to move around context menu options, as I know the placement of “open in split view” has been a complaint.
