Background playback is not working properly

Description of the issue: Background playback is not working properly, it works for some minutes at start then suddenly music gets paused. I was using youtube music.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Play any music on youtube music.

  2. Go to home screen of your phone.

  3. Then turn off your screen and wait for a few mins.

Expected result: The music should play in the background without any interruptions.

Brave Version( check About Brave): Brave 1.87.191, Chromium 145.0.7632.120

Mobile Device details: Galaxy S21FE running on Android 16

Additional Information: You recently released a update about fixing background playback issue but that didn’t fix anything. I have been facing this issue for past one week because I didn’t use brave for music for about 2 months and now I just started using it again.

This has already been reported, and a ticket is already open for it.

However based on the GitHub ticket, the fix was in 1.86.xxx, and you have 1.87.xxx.

@Mattches what’s the status on this fix? Or is this still related to Google’s A/B per account testing? (I don’t have my phone near me to test.)

Fix(es) in Nightly builds now and I believe Android team is planning on uplifting these fixes into stable build asap.

The one that you can find on the play store – search for Brave browser Nightly and it should be easy to find.

Just updated to the latest nightly via playstore, youtube music is working flawlessly, while youtube is buffering A LOT. I mean every video. YouTube became unwatchable.

@Hdjdjdjksskdnjdj glad to hear the issue is fixed. As we’ve said many times here on Community, the battle between Brave/other ad-blocking software/browsers is a constant tug of war. Youtube is always fiddling with their ad block detection and user profiles associated with them to try and find ways to dissuade user’s from leveraging them.

The long buffering you’re seeing is likely the case your’e encountering. One thing you can try is signing out of your YT account, clearing your browsing data (in Nightly) and trying to stream content while not signed in to see if they are A/B testing profiles.

I only use incognito mode, I never login to YouTube. This issue started after the latest nightly version. This is also an issue in playlists, once one video ends, the next one doesnt start because its buffering. User is forced to refresh the page.
