Previously, YouTube videos kept playing in the background when minimised while using Brave Browser. Now, the audio stops as soon as the app is minimised or screen is locked. This feature was very useful, and its removal greatly affects usability. Please restore background playback support for YouTube in Brave.
Maybe somehow the āallow background useā option for the app was reset, this happend to me for a different app and it also stopped the playback of the media (in my case it was audio playback). You can find this usualy either in the energy settings or directly in the app settings where you can also set the permissions that the app has.
I am having this same problem and is driving me up the wall. It worked fine until I updated to 1.181.136. None of my settings are different.
I am on 1.82.156 and noticed this too, while watching YT live videos. For me the regular videos play with background play fine. I set the tab with the live to desktop site, refreshed, and it will play the live now in background that way, but not when desktop site isnāt selected.
I had to save my bookmarks and uninstall brave. I restarted the phone, reinstalled, and it works. Thanks Brave.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the latest release too and it is functioning as it should, with background play working.
Same issue that Youtube was not playing in the background⦠I only had to restart the phone.
So even after reinstalling and re-syncing, sometimes YouTube stops playing in the background. However, just restarting Brave works. Is there a way to get YouTube to play in the background all the time? Not sure what triggers it not working.
Iām having the same issue. I tried to post about it as well but Iām not seeing it. This is definitely a huge issue for me as that was one of the main things I used regularly. All of my settings are still the same and background play setting is enabled. I tried switching it on and off to see if that helped and it did nothing. Iām hoping that this is just a bug and they didnāt take it away. Have yet to find a fix for it.
I had the same issue. Restarting the phone helped and it worked again.

I just updated to 1.82.165 from 1.82.162 a few hours ago. No problems thus far.
Well, unfortunately, the PiP mode still isnāt working for YT unless you change the site to PC mode.
And before anyone asks:
Yes, I restarted the app.
Yes, I restarted the phone.
Yes, I reinstalled the app.
Yes, I have the PiP option on in the phone options.
No, I didnāt change any other options on my phone.
I installed Brave Beta meanwhile. It works well, as always.
@KarloB1990 thanks for reporting. Can you confirm your Brave version? Just to confirm, is this different than the original PIP behavior on your device?
Today I updated to version 1.82.165
It stopped working when I uptaded that app to the previous version (somewhere around 6.09.2025)
Since then when I watch a YT video in the app, when itās in āstandard modeā when I try to use the PiP to watch the video and use the phone, only the audio is working (previously it worked fine). Only when I change the page to PC mode then while pressing the Home on phone, I can watch the video in PiP.

Well thanks guys for advise and now it working just fine as it should be after 4 mb update!!
