YouTube comments and description not loading with Shields enabled

Description of the issue:
When browsing YouTube using Brave, the video description and comments section do not load while Shields (ad/tracker blocking) are enabled. The video itself plays normally, but both the description and comments remain hidden or unavailable.

If I open the same video in another browser (or in Incognito mode without extensions), everything loads correctly. If I disable Shields in Brave, the description and comments also load properly.

Additionally, if Shields are enabled, I can sometimes force the comments and description to load by refreshing the page and immediately scrolling down before the page fully finishes loading.

Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary):

  1. Launch Brave

  2. Navigate to YouTube

  3. Open any video

  4. Ensure Shields are enabled (ad/tracker blocking on)

  5. Scroll down to the description and comments section

Actual Result:
The video description and comments do not load. The page appears as if those sections are disabled or missing.

Expected Result:
The video description and comments should load normally even with Shields enabled.

Reproduces how often:
Always (on every video tested)

Brave Version
v 1.87.186 with Debian 13 Trixie (KDE Plasma)

Additional information:

  • The issue does not occur in Incognito mode.

  • The issue does not occur in other browsers.

  • Disabling Shields immediately resolves the problem.

  • Refreshing the page and quickly scrolling down sometimes forces the content to load even with Shields enabled.

@mihai14launcher this part here often suggests it’s related to an extension you’re using or to cookies. Are you using any extensions?

  • If so, try disabling or removing them and see if it improves
  • If not, you may have to try clearing at least all YouTube and Google cookies to see if there are any improvements.

I’m also curious, which content filters are you using? This would be the things checked at brave://settings/shields/filters
