YouTube not working! Unless disabling Brave Shields...

I think it is not a problem from Brave devs but from Google. The day has come. YouTube not working at all unless disabling Brave Shields.

Please give ideas to bypass this…

Do you have other extensions installed?

If you access Youtube from a Private Window, do you see the same experience?

Yes I do have other extensions.

Wow, funny. YouTube not working in Private Window. Why is this happening?

Hi, Welcome (Back) to the Community @g3ck0!

If you want further assistance I’d suggest providing more info. You haven’t indicated your Device/OS or Brave Version, no category, no tags, no template.

Recommended Template to fill out further down/attached. Copy/paste, don’t use quote function. I recognize you have answered one or two things from it but obviously more info would be helpful.

Also a search and other Topics to check out:
https://community.brave.app/search?q=youtube%20%23support-and-troubleshooting%20order%3Alatest

As a refresher, since you’ve been a member since 2021…

Here are some Community Guidelines & Tips (slightly revised by me) BEFORE posting, please:

  1. Observe and adhere to the Brave Community Code of Conduct, as found here: https://community.brave.app/faq

  2. Search the Community to see if anyone else has already posted or resolved the same issue you’re having. You can do so by clicking the Magnifying Glass at the top right. To get better information using the search, you can click on the filters icon to the right of the pop-down search field and/or go here: https://community.brave.app/search and customize the search for better results. e.g. Using the Sort By: Function for Latest Post is helpful for issues that people are currently discussing.

  3. Ensure that you’re posting in the appropriate # CATEGORY — Navigate the main page of the Community, on the left side you will see several categories to choose from, if you are unsure, you can go INTO a category and read the PINNED About _X_ Category Topic for more info.

  4. To go with that also # TAG your posts (e.g. windows, ios), with the most appropriate tags.

  5. Finally, when you are ready to create a New Topic, PLEASE fill out the TEMPLATE that should automatically populate for your issue, ASSUMING, you followed Step 3 above :backhand_index_pointing_up: NOTE: “Uncategorized” Topics (ones opened outside of a category) do not have a template, so again, please ensure you’re posting to the right category.
That way when you are looking for troubleshooting assistance it is much easier for both you, the user, and the support agent(s) (either Brave Employees or other helpful Brave user volunteers) to have as much information as possible and to support you most efficiently and resolve your problem in a timely manner.

OTHER TIPS:

After you have created a New Topic, if you need to Add, Revise, or Edit anything, you are able to do so by clicking the little Pencil Icon at the bottom of it.

There are often times restrictions for New Users but if you are eligible and if it could be helpful, consider uploading Screenshots and/or Videos, if you are eligible you can do so by clicking the hard drive with the arrow pointing up within a post/Topic.

To go along with Step 1 Above, Please also be PATIENT BUT PERSISTENT - This community receives 100s of new Topics on a weekly basis and it can become quite easy for many Topics to be accidentally overlooked and if you are not responding or no one else responds to your post the Topic will then close. So bump your post to get some attention before it is automatically closed and if you do find the Solution, mark it as so and/or share what the solution was as to help others save the hassle that you went through.

TEMPLATE:

Troubleshooting technical issues is much easier when both the user and support agent practice clear communication. For this reason, we have provided the template below for you to fill out with information about your issue. Please provide as much detail as possible so we can most efficiently resolve your problem.

Delete the any text above the line separator below before posting

Description of the issue:

Exact URL of the website in question:

Did the issue present with default Shields settings? (yes/no)

Does the site function as expected when Shields are turned off?

Is there a specific Shields configuration that causes the site to break? If so, tell us that configuration. (yes/no):

Does the site work as expected when using Chrome?

Brave & Chromium Versions (check Brave Settings > About Brave & Copy/Paste):

Device, Operating System & Version (check System About Section & Copy/Paste):

Just pointing out some helpful information for future reference and making it clear that more info is necessary, OP hasn’t shared much, so I’m just sharing what they can do to help themselves. Mattches occasionally sends Guidelines out (e.g. Here) and tells people to redo their post as well to people who don’t share much info so :man_shrugging: I’m just trying to save him some work and again guide users to help themselves some more.

Occurs in new fresh Brave Profile, in Brave Beta or Nightly I don’t know, I’m not a huge fan of those…

Still working for me fwiw. Same build, shields up. I did have to disable ublock origin on the site though

This makes it sound like you pretty much narrowed down the issue, at least if you answered this correctly. The question here is asking if the problem occurred with default Shields settings. If you are are saying no like is in your answer, then it means it’s a setting you changed in Shields that’s causing the problem.

So what is it you changed? Such as adding any custom filters, turning on Block Scripts, or anything like that?

@g3ck0 hey, let me find some details here:

  1. Can you give more details on what you mean by “not working?” I mean, what’s the page look like and are you getting any error messages? Screenshots might help if you could.

  2. Have you given any of your extensions to run in private window? Basically when checking in Private it’s because it tends to disable all extensions and it’s a session with no cookies.

  3. When you tried in private, did you remain logged out of YouTube or did you log in?

  4. If you create a secondary test profile, does it work there? To do this, go to the hamburger menu (three dot menu) → More Tools → Add New Profile. Don’t add extensions or change settings. Just visit YouTube and see if it works.

Yes sorry, YES the issue is present with default Shields settings.

Details:

  1. I can see the homepage, recommended videos, but when I click in any of them, it simply does not play, or showing loading, nothing. If logged out, the log in button is unresponsive.

  2. No extensions in Private window.

  3. Logged out.

  4. Youtube working fine in fresh new profile.

So testing in a private window helps to check if an issue is related to cookies/site data or extensions.

Testing in a new profile kind of looks at that as well but it adds the other layer of browser settings.

There could be another moving piece here but when I follow simple logic, I would say that it seems that there’s something in the settings that you’ve changed that might be causing a problem.

Can you think of anything that you might have changed in recent weeks?

If you can’t think of what might have been changed recently, you could maybe try doing a side-by-side comparison through your settings, Default Profile vs. New Profile, a bit arduous but just a thought. I would start with brave://settings/privacy & brave://settings/shields if you were to.

Not really. I barely change settings…
