After installing Brave v1.87.192 (arm64) on macOS, I see visible margins/padding around the webpage area. The browser does not fill edge-to-edge even when the window is maximized or in full screen. The effect looks like a border around the content.
There was a previous similar post, which was fixed by apparently disabling ‘show rounded corners’ in the appearance section insettings, but this did not fix mine at all. In fact this option wasn’t enabled in the first place, and enabling it and then disabling it again didnt fix it either. Is anyone else experiencing this?
When I go full screen its as if the screen kind of ‘zooms out/shrinks’ and there are just black borders around it. The issue is visible on all sites.
How can this issue be reproduced?
Open Brave on macOS
Maximize or enter full-screen mode
Observe that the webpage does not touch the edges of the display and there is a visible rounded margin/border on all sides
Expected result:
Full screen should use the entire display area with no margin, as in previous versions.
Check Safari/Chrome on the same Mac, same display, same fullscreen/maximized mode. If that goes truly edge‑to‑edge, the issue is Brave’s current build on Tahoe, not Tahoe itself.
Try Brave in normal “zoomed” window (green button once) versus true fullscreen (green button or Ctrl+Cmd+F). Sometimes only one mode has the extra border.
Temporarily disable UI elements one by one (bookmarks bar, tab strip style, vertical tabs if enabled) to see if any particular layout is triggering the padding.
If willing, test Brave Beta or Dev: if those builds don’t show the border, it’s almost certainly a known Brave layout bug already fixed in a newer Chromium/Brave version that just hasn’t hit stable yet.
Maybe worth the effort to work that switch one way, then Exit / Quit the browser; followed by, start the brower and work the switch the other way; and repeat - maybe that will “jar things loose?”
Hey, so even though this user is a Mac OS user, I just tried on Windows enabling Rounded Corners, then pressed F11 to fullscreen the browser, and actually found there is indeed a bug, and it’s cross platform.
@MasterLink thanks for testing. Looks like someone has opened and issue for this on GH as well – I’ve added a couple of the threads I’ve seen and let some folks know in channel internally:
Actually on second-look its not rounded, its just a normal square padding on the top, left and right edges of the video (plus rounded corners are already off anyway).
The weird part is I cant even take a screenshot to show the black edges, as the cursor only allows me to go to the corner of the videos (and not to the corner of the screen), as if the black edges actually eat up the screen area and its just a void.
It kind of looks like im running a VM lmao, as if my screen exists within another screen surrounded by thin black unreachable edges.
Ahh ok, that’s different, though strange at the same time. I’m not sure then, because at least on Windows, there is a bug with rounded corners being used in Full Screen, but if it’s off on yours, I can’t see it being that then (especially if it’s square).
Ironically showing a screenshot for my issue when I thought it was related to you, I had to photograph as a screenshot would have hidden the lines being so small, and had to let the camera see the backlight bleed from the panel itself to show there is a border present. (Two bugs that are similar but not quite the same.)
I also have the white line at the top of my screen. I’m guessing its not related since the white line issue is happening to a lot of people, but funny that it’s there too
