Split view function is being blocked

Description of the issue: Whenever I press on the split view function, I get directed to a new tab instead. I didn’t know what was happening. I later realized that I also get a notification telling me that “Extensions aren’t allowed in split views, so Cold Turkey Blocker opened it in a new tab instead”. I have an extension called Cold Turkey that blocks websites. I’m not sure if the extension is blocking split view or if the browser doesn’t allow split view while Cold Turkey is active for some reason. I have used split view on the Edge browser before while having Cold Turkey so that’s why I’m suspecting that the issue is with the browser. Also, I didn’t find information in the extension settings or the settings of the Cold Turkey app that suggests that the extension blocks split view.

Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary):

1. Install Cold Turkey extension

2. Try using split view

Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!):

Expected result: That split view works as normal instead of redirecting me to a new tab

Reproduces how often: Split view gets blocked every time I try to use it.

Operating System and Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu): Windows 10; 1.87.192

Additional Information:

@AhmadBahja00 thanks for writing in, would you be willing to share a screen grab of this happening?

Since the quote of that screenshot from your extension reads: “so Cold Turkey Blocker opened it in a new tab instead.”

I’d say that the extension is the one that is blocking Split View, since your extension is telling you (more so Brave itself is) it is the one that blocked it and opened a new tab instead, because extensions aren’t allowed to run within Split View.

Hello. I tried uploading a screen recording, but it turned out that new users can’t upload files.

Ok, I understand. So the only solutions are uninstalling the extension or asking Brave to allow extensions to remain active in split view.

It would be Chromium wide. For example, if you use that same extension on Edge or Chrome, it likely will have the same error.

But with that said, it might be extension dependent, or maybe your extension has an update?

I use Dark Reader to force dark mode on sites that lack it, such as Google Voice, and well, it did work in Split View.

So perhaps the extension itself can in the future be updated to work around it. (Or already does, might want to check.)

Ok, thanks for your help.
