I have Brave installed on Arch Linux and fonts on some web sites look particularly bad. A good example is the frontpage of Meetup.com, in Brave I see:
In other Chromium browsers, or even Firefox I see a more normal looking font like:
I’ve tried both the brave-bin package from the AUR, as well as the Flatpak thinking that the Flatpak might isolate from some weird system prompts. This isn’t the only site this odd font appears on, and when I come across it I usually test in another browser and its only Brave.
Still occurs when I turn shields off.
Brave font settings are still at their defaults. I haven’t changed them.
Occurs whether or not hardware acceleration is enabled.
At least on Meetup.com, when I inspect the page, the element in the image above has a font-family of NeuSans,Inter,system-ui,sans-serif. If I remove the NeuSans the font renders is more normal fashion.
Something I also noticed is that in the web tools, the download of the NeuSans fails with a 403 code. This isn’t specific to Brave, it happens in Chrome and Firefox as well, so it appears it might be falling back to this sloppy font? Looking at the “Customize fonts” page inm settings, none of the fonts look like this either.
