Hello Community!
There was an bug in Brave found recently specific to Arch Linux OS that caused fonts/text to display incorrectly in the browser:
We essentially just need you to test the pre-release build and confirm whether or not the issue is resolved. Anyone willing can install the following pre-release build:
Alternatively, anyone using Beta, Nightly or any browser version running Chromium 140.0.7339.80 or higher will also be able to test this issue and confirm whether or not it’s resolved.
Hello, I’m an Arch-based distro user (CachyOS) running the brave-beta-bin package provided from the AUR, latest 1.83.91. I have 2 separate computers, both experiencing the same issue with the fonts displaying in a warped/distorted way on some websites. Attaching brave://gpu/ reports from both devices as well as a screenshot of the problem, as it currently displays in the browser.
I can answer any further questions, as well as attempt further troubleshooting if instructed.
Hopefully the issue can be swiftly resolved, as Wayland sessions by default are a long-awaited addition
I’m using Garuda, also an Arch based distribution, and experiencing the same thing with fonts. I’m used to the terrible Font kerning, inconsistent application of subpixel rendering and failing to respect any complex fontconfig logic, but the fonts looking like they were drawn by a 2 year old is a new low.
How do you guys manage to make fonts look so much worse than literally any other application on Linux? Even vanilla Chromium looks better.
I’d genuinely like to know that too, it’s extremely weird.
The update 1.82.166 was finally pushed to us on Linux, and oh man… The issue is still here. It’s noticeably better than it was in the Beta builds, but it was only fixed “somewhat”. Proof attached in screenshot…
