Since the latest version of Brave, I have been unable to sign into my Yahoo account. I get to the Yahoo screen asking for my password, and the screen freezes and the page becomes unresponsive. I can sign in using another browser. Can you help?
First remark: Brave appends a list of similar queries following yours. If you review that list, it’s (somewhat) reassuring to see: you’re not alone … and this isn’t a new problem. This doesn’t solve the problem.
My own experience with Yahoo Mail dates back 25 years. (I also use other email services.) I just successfully logged into Yahoo Mail using both Brave and Firefox. Randomly, Yahoo sometimes requires a version of 2-factor authentication — at its simplest, receiving a multidigit sequence at a different email address and providing that sequence as part of the Yahoo log-in process. It adds friction but logging in eventually succeeds.
In addition to Brave’s “shields” do you have any extensions installed that might be impeding logging into Yahoo? I’ve also installed Malwarebytes, NoScript, and uBlock Origin — each of which is adjusted to not impede logging into Yahoo.
I use a 3rd-party password manager (Bitwarden). How Bitwarden interacts with Yahoo changes from time to time and with different browsers. Not too long ago, Bitwarden automatically filled both username and password fields. Currently — using Firefox — I have to copy-and-paste my username but my password is automatically filled; using Brave, I have to copy-and-paste BOTH username AND password — but logging into Yahoo succeeds.
What extensions do you have installed? You may have to adjust how they interact with Yahoo. Check to determine whether you can copy-and-paste your username and password (rather than relying on a password manager to auto-fill these fields) when Yahoo asks for this information.
Last remark for this reply: you omitted mention of the operating system you’re using. I’m currently using linux (Debian 12). Your operating system may be relevant.
I’ve been having difficulties to log into Gmail accounts for a while. It’s not exactly the same behaviour, but it might come from a common bug.
Unfortunately, those incidents seem to be too isolated to get any attention.
If disabling shields and other site-altering features doesn’t fix the problem, I’d first try with another browser to confirm it’s related to Brave. Then, if you can, try with either a fresh installation of Brave in a VM or using the beta or nightly (it’s available at the bottom of the website main page) to see if it’s related to your browser’s configuration.
In a Brave Browser New Window, go to ‘https://login.yahoo.com/’ and click on the tune icon that is immediately to the left, of the left end, of the URL address field. In the pop-down menu, click the Reset permissions button. Reload the page.
In a Brave Browser New Window, go to brave://settings/clearBrowserData, select the Basic tab, select All time for Time range, Enable both Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files . . . then click the Delete data button.
Exit / Quit everything and Restart.
Revisit all three of the Yahoo URL addresses (login, mail, www), and for each, click the tune button, and either Enable JavaScript or verify that JavaScript is Enabled, and Reload.
