Thanks, @fanboynz, it’s the login itself. It’s taking forever to complete. The screen goes completely white and then eventually Yahoo! either decides to send a verification code to an alt email address or it finally displays a dialog saying “If you’re seeing this, click on the button below”.
Only then do things return to normal.
I suspect this may be related to the recent rollout of the ‘New Yahoo! Mail’. The issues may have something to do with my being locked into a Mac OS I can’t update (I’m at the limit for my hardware) and/or possibly the same situation re my version of Brave (can’t update Brave beyond my current version). But no similar problems are occurring with other webmail platforms.
I would agree that this is likely related to the outdated OS. I just tested on my end and didn’t have any issues logging in. Do you see this same slow login behavior when using a clean/fresh profile?
@mattches…Thanks. I’ve been having variable experience with this the past few days, so am waiting for a recurrence of what I reported before testing with a new profile.
I have noted that getting into Yahoo! Mail in Safari (the OS Catalina version) is consistently faster than in Brave. I’m guessing that may be related to one or more of Brave’s shields having greater effect on The New Yahoo! Mail than on the previous YM release. Again, the problems are only with Yahoo! Mail. No other email platforms are complaining, even with my old OS and Brave versions.
Please test Yahoo mail with latest Brave for iOS / IPadOS.
Login is normal. However, when you create a new email, the auto-lookup of email recipient(s) by typing a few characters has been lost. The only way to add an email recipient address is to type it all out manually. Ugh.
I posted a few times about this in the past. The breakage for iOS occurred 3-4 releases ago, coincident with the addition of some crypto wallet features.
I don’t have a ‘fix’ for what you encounter when you log into Yahoo Mail but I’ll offer this: I encounter the same screens — and delays — logging into Yahoo Mail when I use Firefox. This is with a more-or-less up-to-date version of Debian. (‘more-or-less up-to-date’: up-to-date Debian 12 not yet updated to 13)
Which is to say: I suspect what you’re experiencing with Yahoo Mail is specific to Yahoo Mail. It seems to be both operating-system-agnostic and browser-agnostic. This doesn’t resolve your complaint, but I’m reasonably sure what you encounter isn’t related to Brave.
I suspect the friction we’re both experiencing when logging into Yahoo Mail is Yahoo’s attempt to force users to migrate to ‘passkeys’ — which is an entirely different topic.
Thanks @redbike9, you may be right. More likely (imho) Yahoo! wants users to upgrade to one of its paid plans. Note the complete absence of any customer service otherwise (not that it’s the only one).
I agree that the issues are specific to Yahoo! Mail. I haven’t had any similar problems with other (non-Yahoo!) email accounts.
To the extent that the browser is concerned, I haven’t found that the issues are specifically with Brave and Yahoo!, but that I experience less of them with Yahoo! in Safari.
I uninstalled and reinstalled Brave on my laptop, and now cannot log into Yahoo Mail, either with or without Shields. I can, however, log in on Chrome or Edge. Why am I blocked on Brave?
How do I clear it for the [yahoo mail?] site? I have cleared all cache/browsing data in Brave browser… is that not the same as clearing it for a specific site? Thanks for the reply.
