Briefly describe your issue: I want to connect my Brave Rewards to Brave Wallet but it doesn’t work
What Operating System and Brave version are you using? Brave 1.84.141 (Official Build) (arm64)
Who is your verified custodian or self-custody? Self-custody (Brave wallet)
Are you in a supported region? Yes
When I go to Brave Rewards, it says ‘Choose where you’d like to receive BATs’
I choose ‘Brave Wallet’ - on the next screen when I choose ‘Connect’ the Brave Wallet, I get taken to the ‘Unlock Wallet’ page. I have never set up a Brave wallet though so I don’t have a password and cannot restore.
If I try to go to Wallet in Settings, it takes me back to the ‘Unlock Wallet’ page.
@ProperChels just so you know, Brave Wallet wouldn’t ask for a password unless someone with access to your device had created one before. If you are confident you or anyone with access to your device didn’t create one and there’s no assets, then you will want to just reset your Wallet.
Go to Settings → Web3 → Reset and clear wallet data
Continue with the prompts and it will reset the Wallet only. Once this is done you can set up your new wallet. It will give you a restore phrase which will be the master key to your wallet. Never share that with anyone as it is what ultimately gives you ownership of the wallet and all assets in it. Give it to someone else and they get full access to it. Obviously, you want to keep that somewhere safe so you can restore it if there’s ever any problems with your device or anything. It also will prompt you to create a password, which is just the local password to unlock access to the wallet.
-NOTE-
Once the Wallet is established, you still won’t be able to link to Rewards yet. In order to be linked for self custody via Brave Wallet, you will need SOL on Solana. You can either buy this directly through Brave Wallet or you can send it from another wallet if you have one. It needs at least $1 worth there for the Associated Token Account (ATA) fee from Solana.
I don’t remember creating a Brave Wallet, how could one have been setup if I didn’t create one?
Is there something like a ‘Forgot your password’ link or a way to check if there are assets in the wallet?
You mention that a new wallet needs SOL and it can be bought directly through Brave Wallet, how can the Brave Wallet be funded initially?
Most likely just was done when first installing and didn’t realize what you were doing or something. But it is what it is.
No. There’s no Forgot Your Password or anything. Wallet is full self custody. What you have is your Restore Phrase, also known as a Seed Phrase, which is like the title or proof of ownership of a wallet. Anyone who has it can access the accounts in the wallet. It’s something that it always tells you to keep in a safe place.
The password it asks for locally is just a little localized lock from the browser profile itself. Brave has no access to either and wouldn’t want to create any potential loopholes to it. Both are to the user to keep safe.
Like I said, you can buy directly through Wallet or can send from elsewhere. When you get into it, there’s a Buy button and it will have places you can buy from. They will ask for bank account or credit card, just like you would normally pay for things. Some might even allow PayPal and all, I’m not sure.
