Nope, can’t find it. I really am a noob sorry
Does not work for me.
Even on private mode and not connected on youtube, it does not work.
Galaxy s23 SM-S911U Android version 16
YouTube will kill it’s video player if you return to the home screen or change tabs in the browser for mobile regardless of desktop or mobile mode signed out or signed in or with background media on or off
basically if you leave the page in any way while it’s running it will kill the player temporarily until you return to the page it’s likely using something to detect whether or not the page is active to determine whether or not to disable the browser player
side note YouTube music page still works in the background it’s only the main YouTube service
I have the latest version of brave as of today currently available in the Google Play store
Same problem for me
Brave 1.86.142
Android 14
Mine is not working too. But it works both in desktop mode and in the private mode. It was working fine in the morning, it stopped working at night. Brazil time.
Same issue here i lile most one of the reason to use brave is the youtube playing backgournd and the addblock too bad both arent working properly now. If only
. . . causes YouTube video to stp playing.
iPhone 14, iOS 18.7.1, Brave Browser v1.85 (116), Private Browsing Only.
Also experiencing this since yesterday, and for a few days a couple of weeks ago. Device is
OPPO A77 5G
I second findings from @almeidajon. Background play works in both Incognito window and normal window with ‘Desktop site’ enabled.
iPhone 14 Plus, iOS 26.2, Brave 1.85 (116)
Since the YouTube background play problem appeared a week ago, I’ve been using the “change tab” workaround. This worked until last night, Jan 29-30, Malaysian time.
Now the only way I can get background play to work in YouTube is doing the following:
-
Play a YouTube video.
-
Change the video size to full screen (tap the button on the lower right of the video).
-
Click the picture-in-picture button (top left of the video screen). The vid will now play as a picture-in-picture screen.
-
Go to your Home Screen or to another app or to another tab. Background play is now activated.
-
Close the picture-in-picture window.
-
Go back to your paused video and press the play button. Background play will now operate as usual.
-
This has to be repeated for every new video, sigh.
This is truly a hassle, but what workaround isn’t, right? I have no idea if this works for playlists, or whether you’d have to repeat the procedure for every vid on the playlist.
I’m using a Google Pixel 6. Android version 16. Brave fully updated (Jan 29.)
YT will not play in the background signed-out or signed-in in a normal tab.
In private tab signed-out, it works but shortcut on lock screen is no longer visible. In private tab signed-in though, it does not work.

I’ve also been experiencing this issue for quite awhile now through the last few months, it’s been on and off but lately pretty much all the time.
Always keep my phone and app updated soon after public releases, so I can confirm the issue has persisted throughout all of the updates, as well as deleting and reinstalling the app multiple times.
While signed in. I’ve tried multiple ways of minimising to trigger it to keep background audio going, but hardly ever works now. eg locking the phone directly from the side button while brave is open, or swiping up to minimise the app (I can’t really control it but notice it either minimises to the app icon on the wallpaper or goes up into the Dynamic Island on the iPhone), also tried to restart the audio by pressing play with the player on the lock screen hoping it will stay, but after a few seconds the audio just stops again. Also tried full screen etc.
9 times out of 10 it doesn’t work anymore

Oh no!!!
THIS ISSUES IS BACK!!!
Solution is fortunately quite simple. Click ob the 3 dots at the bottom to open the settings, and switch to the “Desktop site” then you can close brave and continue listening. On the Desktop site everything is smaller so is quite annoying to type/search, so just remove the checkmark on desktop, do all your search on mobile, and when ready to listen only, switch to “Desktop”site”.
Same here. It’s working properly on my Iphone, but not on my Samsung (Android).
I removed the rule, I suspect it was causing some issues “content not available” issues.
It is YouTube and Google fighting third party browsers and adblockers (the news is in finnish):
