Description of the issue: YouTube lags on 1.5, 2x playback speed. I have tried the recommended fixes like turning off ambient mode, messing with Force High Performance GPU, Choose ANGLE graphics backend, GPU rasterization, Experimental QUIC protocol, settings in brave://flags. The only thing that works for me is turning off hardware acceleration, which I don’t want to do. This even happens at 480p. Even having youtube premium doesn’t solve this issue.
Exact URL of the website in question: youtube.com
Did the issue present with default Shields settings? yes
Does the site function as expected when Shields are turned off? No
Is there a specific Shields configuration that causes the site to break? If so, tell us that configuration. (yes/no): No
Does the site work as expected when using Chrome? Yes
Brave version : 1.86.142
Since this is usually limited by the GPU’s video engine, what GPU do you have, and what is the driver version?
Also, do capture the following under brave://gpu please.
and
(With graphics acceleration disabled, as I dislike ever disabling acceleration, I like tackling the issue head-on, but the hint that it works better with GPU acceleration off, feels like the GPU itself is bottlenecked somehow. But these screenshots will help.)
Update: Enabling skia graphite via brave://flags and a hard reset (ctrl+shift+r) seems to work for now.
Yea, Graphite has been my goto fix for things lately (it’s why I have it enabled).
Both of your GPU’s should be powerful enough, but chances are, since it’s a laptop, all outputs even from the 3050 go through the Xe Graphics. If Graphite works, perfect.
But I’d check for updates for both GPU’s. I got both a laptop and desktop with dual GPU’s (so I know the weirdness they have) and just helped another user earlier with issues with a 1060, going through their Intel iGPU based laptop, and despite the 1060 being the one “Active”, the Intel iGPU driver was what fixed it.
Can you share a link to this. My YouTube problems are back. Turning on Skia worked only for a single video for some reason; as soon as I started a second video, the lagging started again.
A link to what? The drivers? You can go to Nvidia.com and download it there, just select the right one. For the Intel: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/products/211012/graphics/processor-graphics/intel-iris-xe-graphics-family.html
It seems they only have it for 11th to 14th gen Intel, which I assume is the CPU’s those were used it.
