Preface for other users: disable Split View via brave://flags
Issue:
Context menu option ‘Open in Split View’ (right click on bookmark) appears at the bottom of the top context menu category.
Context menu option ‘Open link in Split View’ (right click on hyperlink) appears second from the top of context menus.
Why is this such a problem:
These are functionally identical behaviors. They should exist in relatively identical context menu priorities. My vote is to favor the Bookmark behavior (bottom of the top category), as “Open in New Window” can functionally serve near the exact same purpose in (any?) modern desktop compositor, barring some expedient alt-tabbing.
Addendum:
If I am being very blunt in feedback here, Split View in its entirety feels like gratuitous (and worse) under-cooked bloat. If this is an upstream Chrome feature my strong recommendation is to simply disable the feature by default. Usecases are slim. Certainly someone migrating from Chrome could be lost believing the feature is absent, but these are few, far between, and even among these individuals are likely to ask about the presumably missing feature. No doubt an AI agent somewhere would dutifully assist. At some point features for the sake of features are a hindrance, not a help. If they are upstream, differentiating yourself from those hindrances may be a net gain. Adapt at your discretion.
