Description of the issue: Cannot re-enable Shields for Youtube. How can this issue be reproduced?
Youtube on Win 11 25H2 running latest Brave 1.86.146 for 64-bit
I may have tweaked Shield site settings for YT a while back but they do not appear to be working any longer. Troubleshooting the YT ad bloom issue I reset all Shield settings to defaults including those for YT, cleared all data, closed the browser, re-launched browser, opened YT and still the Shield button on YT stays firmly Disabled though the page does a refresh each time the Shield switch is clicked.
Checking Shield toggling on other sites indicates that this issue is peculiar to YT site.
Expected result: Enable Shields
Brave Version( check About Brave): 1.86.146 for 64-bit
In a Brave Browser New Window, go to brave://settings/shields and make note of the various settings / switch positions.
In a Brave Browser New Window, go to the Advanced tab at: brave://settings/clearBrowserData and for Time range > All time select: Site and Shields Settings . . . and then click the Delete data button.
Visit ‘https://www.youtube.com’ and click on the “tune” icon that is immediately adjacent to the left end of the Brave Browser URL address field.
In the pop-down mention, click on Reset permissions . . . then you will be prompted to Reload the webage . . . and after doing that, click on the “tune” icon again, and make sure that JavaScript is Enabled.
You may also want to revisit brave://settings/shields and restore some of the settings.
Exit / Quit everything and Restart the computer. Then test your issue.
OK, that is very peculiar. While running thru the previous instructions the browser would open at the Settings page only regardless of whether the provided address was pasted or typed and the address field would reduce to just brave://Settings. Hmm… seems to work fine now.
That peculiarity aside, Youtube has forced my Shields down and could beam aboard at any moment . Still can’t toggle Shields to ON. Attempts to do so cause the page to reload.
Create and use AN ADDITIONAL Brave Browser user Profile (Menu --> More tools --> Add profile) - only ← meaning: Do not have any other Brave Browser user Profile tabs/windows open.
When creating this new Brave Browser user Profile for test purposes
Do not import anything.
Do not add any extensions.
Do not allow/enable any Brave Browser “bells and whistles” such as Brave Rewards, Brave Talk, etc.
IF this test Brave Browser user Profile does not present your problem, then possibly, the profile that you have been using, has a problem . . . and that might be caused by one or more extensions, or too many tabs ← complex/conundrum.
Detailed info about testing - IF, in regard to memory and performance issues:
No extensions were installed so that was N/A. Ended up R&R-ing the app and now YT Shields are up. I’ll be keeping an eye on them if/as/when any additional settings are tweaked.
@tocguy I was seeing the topic and about to mention checking a new profile and all. Then I guess also confirm you had nothing under brave://policy. But seeing last reply, seems like you were able to purge things and things are good.
I’m going to mark your post as “solved” since you’re saying things are fine for now. If any further issues, please update.
