@kenobi36 thank you for confirming
Same issue for me. I recently bought Oppo Reno 13.
Now when I am watching YouTube videos on Brave the screen is turning off automatically after my screentime.
It should stay awake as I am watching video.
I know there is an option to keep the screen on when looking at it. But it drains battery fast which makes unusable option.
I used to not have this on my old Samsung galaxy mobile, part of the reason can be it might be running old Brave version.
Hope this helps and Brave team will fix it soon . Thanks
The android device itself isn’t turning off the screen? Rather than Brave at fault
This has been happening for a while, I tried all of the fixes (this is over two phones, have the S25 ultra now, coming from S22 Ultra) and the fix, for a while, was just using the beta version. But then it started happening on that about a week ago…
I think I give up.
I believe it’s the device that turns the screen off but it shouldn’t as we are watching videos in full screen mode. It’s almost like it isn’t registering that the screen is being used to watch a video in full screen mode
I have also tried enabling Widevine DRM in settings and it hasn’t helped either.
Thanks for everyone reporting. I’m also seeing this on my end again. Will be informing the team to review.
Out of curiosity – I went ahead and tested this from a comment in the Github thread on my end and have not had the screen dim since.
Can anyone else here test and confirm whether or not this resolves the issue for them?
I was about to try the switching from dark to light and back to dark theme, mentioned in the post above. However before that I tried turning off and on the experimental “night theme” setting and relaunched brave in between. I haven’t had the screen dim, even after dropping the android system setting to 15 seconds.
Since I can’t recreate the issue, I wasn’t able to test the dark/light theme.
Well, this didn’t stop working until I updated brave in february and none of my other browsers or apps have this problem. So I’d say it is a problem with brave, which should be sending a “wake lock” to Android but clearly is not.
I pray to God and the engineer that the problem will be fixed.
Hi, it’s seems like the issue is still exist until today, though again, it’s random and there’s no a real way to reproduce it
Brave - Nightly 1.82.79, Chromium 138.0.7204.101
Unrelated, I just want to let out my frustration
Since this issue is so annoying to me, and it happened a lot of time, I decided to switch my mobile browser to Samsung Browser. It doesn’t has this bug, it has ability to block ads, play background video, and still has the old card tab view that brave team told us that it’s impossible to implement. I don’t know, I feel like brave mobile isn’t their priority anymore at this point.
On both of my Motorola phones, one on Android 11 and the other on Android 14, will allow the screen to lock while watching videos occasionally.
This actually happens with VLC, as well.
The thing that always fixes it is Force Closing the app, then relaunching it.
Works every time.
Quick update date jul 19 2025 (The issue seems to come and go I had that issue again like few days ago rn I’m not facing it again idk what’s causing that issue if it’s a bug or something else rn it’s working but I’ve got the issue some days back not too long ago)
I noticed that problem is returnig after some time.
Kill the app and run again, (no need to clear cache) and video is running without screen going off
Guys. HOW have you not fixed this yet? It’s freaking infuriating. I’m not going to be able to use your browser anymore.
Left a comment in the Github issue to get more eyes on on this as the issue appears to return after some time.
I’m having the same problem. I’m using Brave version 1.80.122, currently the latest, on Windows 10 version 22h2. I’ve installed all the updates.
I can’t watch YouTube videos using Brave. When I put the video in full screen, it starts to flicker and goes black at the top. When browsing, the web page sometimes becomes blurry. I’ve had this problem for about 2 months. I tried installing new GPU drivers, but nothing changed. What i do for fix it?
Can confirm this still doesn’t work, or it just briefly does and then fails again. It’s not trying to get a PARTIAL_WAKE_LOCK, or failing to do so. Every other app can do this, and brave could prior to February of this year. I find it hard to believe nobody has checked any of the code changes that broke this in some 8 months. As much as I want to like Brave, I think I’m going to have to stop using it for playing any kind of video longer than my screen timeout, and stop recommending it to people.
Can confirm this is still happening for me.
