I am using Brave Browser on Android 15, and since two weeks YouTube video playing started giving me problems: first of all, background video reproduction stopped working. I tried restarting the phone, checking litterally all battery optimization options, without further success; second, for some reason after some minutes of video reproduction with screen turned on, simply the screen turns off. It both happens with video on full screen or not.
For personal reasons at the moment I can’t uninstall Brave from my phone, so I haven’t tried this method, but I wanted to wait for a Play Store update before submitting the problem: last update was a couple of days ago, and it didn’t fixed the issue.
Description of the issue: video reproduction stops when the screen is locked, and the screen turns off after some time while watching a video.
Try to lock the screen and wait a couple of seconds for it to stop.
Then continue watching the video for some minutes, until the screen automatically turns off.
Expected result: when the screen is locked, the video is supposed to continue playing; when I am watching a video on full screen, it’s supposed not to automatically turns off.
Brave Version( check About Brave): Brave 1.85.112, Chromium 143.0.7499.52
Mobile Device details: The Fairphone (Gen 6), Android 15; Build/FP6.QREL.15.151.0
Additional Information:Both features worked well a couple of weeks ago.
I have some news about the problem: I finally managed to reinstall the application (which I couldn’t before for personal reasons), and then I immediately went to YouTube to test the problem. The video continued even when I exited the app of turned off the screen, so I thought the issue was closed, but it eventually came back as soon as I tried logging in my Google account. I then reinstalled the app once again, synchronized with my Brave chain and tried YouTube: working perfectly. Restarted the application, tried a bounch of manipulation, deactivated YouTube shorts, everything worked. Then, I tried again logging in, and once again the issue came back. I’m confident enough that the problem is reproductible by simply logging in my Google account, because everything works again when I logout.
At this point I’m confused: I could, of course, continue with a “Guest” account on YouTube, but this also implies some unpleasant concequences like a less precise recommendations, or not being able to continue the videos I’ve started on my PC.
Does anyone has the same problem? I don’t remember anyone mentionning their Google account previously.
@Han_NotSoSolo just to clarify, you’re saying that if you are not logged into your Google account and you play content on Youtube, if you let the video run, the screen does not dim and will continue playing as expected?
Sorry if I didn’t made it clear at my first try.
If I am logged into my Google account, I launch a video on YouTube, and lock my screen, then the video stops.
If I am not logged into my Google account, I launch a video on YouTube, and lock my screen, then the audio of the video keeps playing as if it was an offline audio file.
The problem raises when I am logged, but disappear as soon as I log off, systematically. If I log in again, the cycle restarts.
Let me know if you want more details on my situation, and thanks for your help.
Wow, I can absolutely verify this even on AOSP (LineageOS 23).
What I did since I didn’t feel like logging out:
Tried signed into Google, exited Brave. Heard the video still play. Hit lock button, audio stopped. Immediately unlocked phone and the “A site is playing” was there for a split second then disappears.
Tried then on a Private Window since I knew it’d be signed out. Well, audio continued to play which surprised me, didn’t know Private Windows could continue to play audio when locked.
But with that, I absolutely can reproduce this on my OnePlus N200 5G on Android 16 via LineageOS 23 AOSP.
