Logged out of multiple websites!

Hello,

I got logged out of every site on Brave like three months ago and made a post about it. And this happened again, though not for every single website. However, I did got logged out of most websites, which includes Brave Community, Google accounts, OTT websites, and so on.

I was using Brave normally. Closed the browser as usual. Came after a short while and opened Brave and saw a notification telling me to enable product analytics or something to Brave to make features/browser better for my usage. I denied it, as usual.

And then I saw “Your settings were changed by an unknown app” and my search engine was reset back to Brave.

And then I realised, everything is logged out again. I have no idea what caused it. I have not seen any crashes recently either.

I have four extensions in case you need:

  1. Bitwarden Password Manager.
  2. Dark Reader.
  3. IDM Integration Module.
  4. 7TV.

All of my bookmarks, history, existing tabs, settings (except search engine and the option called “Automatically send daily usage ping to Brave”) were the same.

I am confused what’s causing this again and again.

All the websites are still properly logged in on Google Chrome and Edge.

EDIT (5 June 2026) - I don’t know what’s causing this but it seems like the issue is actually with Chromium. A friend of mine also experienced this on Google Chrome. He doesn’t even use any extensions. :joy:

I’m about to head to sleep, but unless a Brave employee can say otherwise, I think this prompt you got indicates outside even extensions (As extensions run within Brave, and it said it happened outside of Brave), this almost sounds as if a program looked at your default browser, and chose to attempt changing it’s homepage. (Which you really don’t want to do, as it can compromise the browsers configuration, and yes this controls the key that unlocks cookies/passwords, etc (hence getting signed out).

While I don’t know if you’ve installed anything recently that might have tried to do such a thing, I’d go a head and run a full virus/malware scan to rule out anything external to Brave, since the prompt seems to imply this.

(It very well could be an extension still. Dark Reader is one I personally use and can vouch it does not do this, so that one can be ruled out.)

I am very careful on downloading and running stuff for the past few years, but still ran a Malwarebyte scan to be sure, and it didn’t find anything.

The most recent thing I installed would be AMD Graphics Drivers, which I did two days ago or a game update yesterday, but I used Brave quite a lot after all that.

I mostly just have plenty of popular games (downloaded from Steam/Epic Games/Xbox App, except Valorant) and few common software which are well known and from their official sources. None of them use cracks or illegal activation method.

Unless something is actually wrong with my Windows 11 (maybe it bugged out or something), I cannot really think of anything. I cannot do a fresh installation of Windows until at least April.

That I am glad to hear. I just wanted to rule that out real fast as something changing the homepage of the default browser is immediately a red flag for me.

I got that one as well, aka the Adrenaline Edition “I cannot see sometimes”, this version is certainly not AMD’s finest..

But, I can say safely, it doesn’t change the home page either, so that’s not it.

Don’t worry about a fresh install, I almost never ask that from people unless somethings deeply wrong, but I don’t think that’s the case here.

Since Malware Bytes came back clean, I think we can safely say it may have been an extension that did it. But the error prompts wording could be better (or more plausibly, it simply doesn’t know).

I did some research since I was going to go to sleep but ended up trying some things for another users audio issues (despite again, should have been going to sleep, lol), and I have a suspicion. Of the 4 extensions, the latter 2 (IDM and 7TV) may be what caused it. However, the reviews on the Chrome store for 7TV have been a bit interesting as of late. While mostly users aren’t running into issues, since December a few have said some things I think may be of interest.

For one, notice the middle review? That’s this month, and they specifically said the extension was causing their Brave install to crash. Likewise, the top review is having issues with it clobbering Twitch’s chat interface, but the bottom one? They didn’t specify which Chrome browser they were using, but it seemed for them they had to reset their Chrome based browser to get it working. Something yours did automatically.

What I think might be happening, is it wasn’t the homepage that changed, but Brave thinks it is. I think the extension simply tampers with the browser in ways it shouldn’t be (otherwise why would the other user need to reset their Chromium based browser?)

So I think perhaps disabling that one for a bit may be best. One review confirms issue with Brave, but another seems sensitive to their preferences or local state file, which is basically what happened to you.

Oh my god, this happened to me today as well. So I woke up with everything logged out. Plus most of the brave settings also changed. I also got that prompt to enable or disable the product analytics and I also chose disabled. Don’t know if it has anything to do with this.

+saved passwords gone, default search engine set to brave– google disappeared.

Oh, thanks for replying here. Maybe this would make things easier to understand.

First of all, can you tell me if you have one of these extensions:

  1. Bitwarden Password Manager.

  2. Dark Reader.

  3. IDM Integration Module.

  4. 7TV.

I don’t think it actually has anything to do with the extensions, but still. I have read some other people also posting about how they lost everything in Brave out of nowhere, but those people were talking about everything, meanwhile here we only lost our login sessions. ;-;

I use another password manager (i.e., Bitwarden), so probably that’s why I did not notice saved password loss. However, the rest, yeah, it is the same story here.

Yeah, I’ll just remove it I guess. It’s been a while I have watched anyone on Twitch. xD Also, turns out another person experienced the same just recently. I wonder if it was triggered due to any recent update or something.

Also, it seems Brave devs are aware of this, but I am not sure if they are working on it, or even have anything to work on it.

yes i have bitwarden and IDM. i actually don’t use brave’s password manager except for a few sites– all of which were removed. i actually noticed the issue today when i launched brave and it resumed all the previous site sessions that i had closed yesterday. i had it set on start new every time on launch. then I noticed that google had been replaced by brave search, and all my logins were gone.

I totally forgot about this, but few weeks ago, I experienced this issue on my phone as well. Every website was logged out. However, that one occurred after a crash, while the PC one happened two times and both times there were no crashes.

Also, just noticed Sync was broken on my PC too.
