Thanks for the reply.
I’ll reference Gmail first.
I access my Gmail account through mail.google.com, and I have a bookmark tab setup to take me to my email account at any time, and up until the last few days I’ve never had to log into Gmail as it’s kept open. In other words, even if I shut down my PC or close Brave, I can click on my bookmark tab and I’ve always logged into GMail unless I specifically log out which, again, I don’t do.
Yesterday I clicked my bookmark tab to access Gmail and found that I was logged out so I logged back on. Today, after my morning startup, I opened Brave and hit my bookmark and found myself logged out of Gmail again so I logged back on. I then went to check to see if anything had been added or changed in how I clear history and cookies and found nothing different and I never clear anything upon exiting from Brave and I never clear cookies as I control cookies thru CCleaner as it has the ability to only delete cookies I have not tagged to keep. That being said, I checked CCleaner and there was no new cookie related to Gmail, so I cleared out all the rest and went about my business.
A few hours later I returned to my PC that was still on, opened Brave, clicked on my bookmark and found that I was logged out of Gmail again after having already logged on earlier. I’m not sure if it’s random as I’ve opened and closed my browser multiple times since the last time I was in Gmail and so far so good. To test this out further I also shut down my PC and upon restart I was able to access Gmail, so I’m a bit baffled as to why things have changed but, I did an AI query through Copilot, and it mentioned that this was being reported as an issue and specifically mentioned Brave and things in settings that might be causing this new behavior. I went through the list (see below) and none of my settings were involved. Note that I do have the Bitwarden extension added to Brave, but I’m running what I believe is the current extension level of 2025.8.2 and my copy of Brave is showing that it’s current as well
Yes—Brave has had recurring issues with Gmail and other Google services logging users out, especially after closing the browser. Here’s what’s been reported and what you can do:
Common Brave-Specific Causes
• “Clear cookies on exit” setting: Found at . If enabled, it wipes session cookies, logging you out of Gmail and YouTube.
• Brave Shields setting: “Forget me when I close this site”: This site-specific privacy feature can silently clear cookies for Gmail, even if global settings look fine.
• Fingerprinting protections: Brave’s aggressive anti-tracking features may cause Google to treat each session as a new device, invalidating login cookies.
• 2FA + VPN combo: If you’re using two-factor authentication and a VPN, Brave’s privacy features may trigger Google’s security heuristics, forcing a logout.
• Brave Sync or password manager conflicts: Some users reported issues when Brave Sync is enabled, especially with Google account integration.
Yesterday I logged into my GMail account by accessing mail.Google.com. Normally
