I got version 1.80.122, but it has been like 6 months since my brave icon the little one next to search bar which I use to turn off ad block on some websites stopped working, when I click on it, it doesn’t show anything or shows a black circle. Any tips how to solve that? I cleared the cache but I don’t wanna do that again since logging in every account is really annoying I’m no the latest windows and latest brave. Any tips please it pisses me off so much I would like to go back to google chrome, because it blocks forms etc on websites I use daily and now I cannot get past some login pop ups because it keeps me from showing them… Apperciate any help I sadly cannot post a video or screen here since I’m new
Please be prepared by preserving your data - “just in case” - in the event your issue’s resolution involves a re-installation of Brave Browser (“BB”).
How to Back Up Passwords that are stored by Brave Browser
Scrolling down the webpage at:
https://support.brave.com/hc/en-us/articles/360018185951-How-do-I-use-the-built-in-password-manager
A note states:
“Export Passwords - Selecting Download file will export all credentials you’ve saved in your browser as a
.CSVfile onto your system. Note that anyone who has access to your system will be able to open and view this file, so it is recommended that you delete this file once you’ve used the file for its intended purpose.”
Tips on how to encrypt that .CSV file:
- ‘https://nordvpn.com/blog/how-to-password-protect-a-zip-file/’
- ‘https://www.winzip.com/en/features/security/password-protection/’
Be sure to safely store a copy of that CSV file on an external drive.
How to back up your Bookmarks as an HTML file
Two ways to get to the Bookmarks Manager.
One way:
- Launch Brave and open the Main menu:

- Select
Bookmarks --> Bookmarks Manager - Open the More options menu at the top right
- Select
Exportand choose where you want to store the exported file.
Another way:
- In a new Brave Browser window, go to:
brave://bookmarks - Locate the “Organize” (vertically-arrayed 3-dot) menu button in the upper-right area of the window; click on that
- You should get a pop-up menu, in which you click on the “Export bookmarks” selection and choose where you want to store the exported file.
The exported file name: “bookmarks.html”
Be sure to safely store a copy of that HTML file on an external drive.
After the initial installation and setup of Brave Browser (“BB”) for Windows OS users, the original BB user profile data is within the Default folder:
C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Local\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\Default
You should verify that location; in a BB New Window, go to brave://version and scroll down to Profile Path.
Now, without BB running, and before doing anything else, make a backup of the User Data folder . . . placing the backup somewhere that is safe and NOT within any BB installation path.
After all that, please create a new BB user profile (Menu → More tools → Add profile). Exit / Quit BB. Restart the computer. Start BB and using only the newly created profile, test your issue.
This issue should have already received a fix – @WindowOpener can you please share a screenshot of what it looks like when you try to open the Shields panel in the browser?
Yeah actually I found the issue for this:
Looks like the fix is in Beta right now and should move into release shortly.
