Issue with Brave browser version v1.84.132 (Oct 29, 2025) browsing history isn’t being saved, but I can still see my recent tabs in the hamburger menu

Description of the issue:
I’m using Brave Browser version v1.84.132 (Oct 29, 2025). My browsing history is not being saved when I open the History page, it’s empty but I can still see recent tabs in the hamburger menu.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Open Brave Browser (v1.84.132) on my device.

  2. Browse several web pages as usual.

  3. After browsing, open the “History” section or press Ctrl+H the History list is empty despite having visited pages. Meanwhile, open the hamburger menu → Recent Tabs; the recent tabs list is populated.

Expected result:
I expect the History list to display the pages I visited during the session (and any previous sessions, depending on my settings), so I can revisit them later.

Brave Version (check About Brave):
v1.84.132 (Release channel) build date Oct 29, 2025.

Device details:

  • OS: Windows 11

  • I did not manually clear history after browsing.

  • I have checked that I am not in a “Private Window” mode.

  • I did not recently change any major privacy or history settings.

  • I confirm the browser shows recent tabs in the menu, which suggests the browser is tracking session activity but not recording it in the normal History.

  • I have searched the forums and found similar issues (for example, users reporting empty history or history not retained) but did not find a case exactly matching v1.84.132.

Not seeing this on my end on my Win11 system. Does it take a while for the History to “disappear”? Or is it instant? If you launch the browser, open the History page, then visit one site (lets say brave.com) then refresh/reopen the History page, does it show the one site you visited?

History disappeared after the update. It says, “Your browsing history appears here” in the history tab

No, it’s disabled. History was showing up correctly before the update

@Peacemaker and no new history is saved? Going to have to ask the team about this – very strange issue.

Yes, no new history is being saved.

Deleting the History-journal and History in AppData\Local\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\Default solved the issue.

My hypothesis is:
That write was interrupted, leaving the rollback/journal file empty (0 KB) and the database effectively corrupted or locked so it could no longer commit new history entries for that profile.
