How can I change my search engine?

Just shows that no Policies are set

Surprisingly, yes

I figured but wanted to make sure no limitation on that.

Which means is a profile corruption. Not sure if it’s something as simple as some extension or another thing. Unfortunately, am not entirely sure off the top of my head what it might be.

I guess another thing, on the profile where the search engines aren’t shown anymore, are you able to see and add things to Site Search?

Just to make sure you and whoever knows, Site Search is just search engines we manually enter. Whereas Search Engines are the default entries that Brave provided when it was installed.

The things we have in Site Search won’t show up in the simpler search engine box you’re looking at.

@RonS2 oh, sorry, I forgot to mention. Other thing I was going to say is go to https://brave.com/download and install on top of your current version. Don’t uninstall. This should manually patch things if something was corrupted.

is this the right text that I should add to the url?

https://search.google.com/search?q=%s

negative. It’s https://www.google.com/search?q=%s

Big trick on this is do a web search on the site you want to add. Like if I went to Google and type in Brave rocks and submit, the search result comes back as:

https://www.google.com/search?q=Brave+Rocks&sca_esv=40f6236d1060b057&sxsrf=ANbL-n73dqBKfN45qiKuHoF-6R1xIFQHkQ%3A1768668036909&source=hp&ei=hLtraY_JNenCkPIP5ZmewQk&iflsig=AFdpzrgAAAAAaWvJlJd7T11sMVmjVmEAeasrCFsKg1_b&ved=0ahUKEwiPm8HwgZOSAxVpIUQIHeWMJ5gQ4dUDCCE&uact=5&oq=Brave+Rocks&gs_lp=Egdnd3Mtd2l6IgtCcmF2ZSBSb2NrczIFEAAYgAQyBRAAGIAEMgUQABiABDIFEAAYgAQyBRAAGIAEMgUQABiABDIFEAAYgAQyBRAAGIAEMgUQABiABDILEAAYgAQYhgMYigVIvCRQAFjcI3ADeACQAQCYAXegAaUKqgEEMC4xMrgBA8gBAPgBAZgCDqAC9AnCAgoQIxiABBgnGIoFwgIEECMYJ8ICDhAuGIAEGLEDGNEDGMcBwgIOEC4YgAQYsQMYgwEYigXCAhEQLhiABBixAxjRAxiDARjHAcICCBAAGIAEGLEDwgIFEC4YgATCAgsQLhiABBjHARivAcICDhAAGIAEGLEDGIMBGIoFwgILEC4YgAQYsQMYgwHCAgsQABiABBixAxiDAcICCBAuGIAEGLEDwgILEC4YgAQY0QMYxwHCAgcQABiABBgKwgIHECMYsQIYJ8ICEhAuGIAEGLEDGNEDGMcBGAoYC8ICDxAAGIAEGLEDGIMBGAoYC8ICDBAAGIAEGLEDGAoYC8ICDBAuGIAEGLEDGAoYC8ICCRAAGIAEGAoYC8ICDxAuGIAEGLEDGIMBGAoYC5gDAJIHBDMuMTGgB-GgAbIHBDAuMTG4B98JwgcHMC44LjUuMcgHN4AIAA&sclient=gws-wiz

So you see where it has Brave+Rocks. That and everything after is what we delete. So it would have left us with https://www.google.com/search?q= and then we just plug in %s as the fill-in that will be replaced by our actual search term.

This should work for most of the search engines we try to add. There are a few that work differently, but yeah…

And just to make sure it’s not missed. Once you add to Site Search it can be made the default search engine by clicking the three dots and choosing Make default. If you ever change the default to anything else, it will drop back down to Site Search but still can be used or made as default again.
