Hi, I have a problem, always use google as my search engine, but recently changed my laptop and afetr install brave i can´t change the search engine, only shows “brave search”, I hope you could help me, TY in advance.
brave://settings/search
You can set which engine to use for both normal and private windows.
yes i´ve tried that but only shows “brave search” and not the others, i´ve clicked on change but there is no other only “brave search”
Oh hey, you’re right!
@Mattches did something regress or was intentionally changed? I too have no search engines at all, the list is just poofed.
When I go to Manage, even all the factory defaults are just…not there.
Had the user not mentioned they had no other option, I wouldn’t have known I too was missing it. ![]()
@RAXXD thank you for mentioning that, I was oblivious that the list was just gone.
haha sorry to not to mention that, just one day the list was not there, i don´t know why ![]()
@RAXXD what version of Brave are you on? Asking as new update was released today, Release Channel 1.85.120. Just curious if it’s on that or not.
My version has been glitched and I’m further ahead. Don’t feel like uninstalling/reinstalling to be back on proper version. lol. On mine (1.87.97) it’s still there:
i´m on version 1.85.120
I think we both may need to compare notes.
I’m right now on v1.85.120, and just last week the list was there on the previous Brave version.
Nothing that I know of that we’ve done would cause this and all my search engines are still intact on both macOS and Windows systems. @MasterLink I know you have Sync enabled so wondering if it’s some Sync weirdness…but even then you don’t sync custom search engine settings (yet) so that seems unlikely.
I also just updated my Windows machine to 1.85.120 to check and see if the update itself behaved strangely in any way but everything seems normal.
yes, i had a new laptop, ant when i installed the new version the list was not there, could be the version?
Yea, and I did check my phone to see, and it had a list of search engines.
My ThinkPad is on a months old Brave version as it hasn’t been turned on in a while. I might boot it, quickly launch Brave before it auto-updates, screenshot the search engines, let it update and re-sync, and see what happens to that list. Brb.
Just tested on Beta (1.86.118) and normal there too. Also tested on new profiles with all versions, not seeing it. So either something in the most recent update or some other oddity at play.
From my ThinkPad when I caught the list before the update:
Post update on the same laptop to the current Brave:
All still there. All under the same LAN too behind the same Firewall and IP (if it’s fetching lists based on IP since it does state the list is based on region).
i´ve tried to uninstall and then reinstall but I have the same problem, and with older versions.
Went and tested two Windows VM’s and two Linux VM’s.
Windows on VM’s have no issue either:
Meanwhile my Linux VM’s hard crashed updating, so sadly I cannot test Linux at the moment. I did try though.
So currently it’s just you and I (my desktop only) who has this issue at this current time.
No Change when updating to 1.86.139
Win11pro
@RonS2 two different things I want you to check if you would.

In your settings, do you see mention of anything like Brave being managed? Or better yet, if you go to
brave://policydoes it show anything? -
Does it work in a new profile? If not sure how to do this, click on the hamburger menu (three lines on upper right of browser) → More Tools → Add New Profile. This creates a second profile with no extensions and most settings at default. Do search engines show up there?
