High RAM usage and performance slowdown on Windows 11 (recent issue Dic 2025)

Description of the issue:
Over the past week, Brave has started consuming an unusually high amount of RAM, causing noticeable slowdowns and, in some cases, “out of memory” errors. This happens during normal daily usage for work. Brave is my main browser and I had no issues until recently. The problem persists even with minimal configuration.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Open Brave on Windows 11

  2. Use the browser normally (multiple tabs, standard websites), in my case I have like 15 tabs open.

  3. Monitor memory usage in Windows Task Manager

  4. RAM usage steadily increases, leading to slowdowns or out-of-memory errors

Expected result:
Brave should use a reasonable amount of RAM and maintain normal performance, similar to how it behaved previously and comparable to other browsers under the same conditions.

Brave Version:
Brave 1.85.117 (Build ufficiale) (a 64 bit)
Chromium: 143.0.7499.146

Additional Information:

  • Operating System: Windows 11

  • RAM: 24 GB

  • Issue occurs even with all extensions disabled

  • Hardware acceleration disabled

  • Same behavior observed on a different PC

  • Other browsers on the same system do not show this issue

Extremely high RAM usage (~12 GB for ~15 tabs) and Memory Saver “strict” mode not working

And there’s been no fix for it in any future updates?

They’re working on it. Some bugs take time, but don’t forget there’s only a team of so many developers also working on other bugs as well.

Mac user but I’ve had similiar problems.

  1. macOS 26.1, 2025 Macbook AIR ,10 Core M4, 32 GB RAM, on-board storage 1 TB, External 8 TB
  2. Issue occurs when using stand alone Leo.ai.
  3. RAM pressure is 20%
  4. Leo is acting like most LLM that are on over-stressed system. Low RAM + Slow Processor = Crazy Behavior / Dropped Connections.
  5. Problem started 12/25/25

I’m planning to go Linux in the future and I worry about the High RAM usage and Performance issues carrying over to future versions of all browser builds.
