Pretty sure this is a Widevine issue…

Go here: brave://settings/extensions

Turn Widevine: ON

Click the Relaunch Now (to obviously restart your browser to load changes)

And try Watching Netflix, Amazon, etc. again.

Widevine is a Google thing, so Brave opts-out of it…

@DazzerJ97 as was mentioned in the reply, can you confirm if you have Widevine enabled?

If Widevine is on and you’re having problems, please check brave://components and see if you can update everything there or if it gives any update errors.

Yes, widevine is indeed enabled  , this was working fine a couple days ago, however I think the recent update broke it. Also, attempted to update in the components however there is update errors on several of them. Even If I turn off my anti virus etc

@DazzerJ97 I figured. In the past, especially recent past, have you chosen to Run as administrator when launching Brave? The issue you’re having is one that tends to happen when people do that, but it can just randomly happen in updates as well.

To put it simply, most likely the permissions for folders got changed. So Brave is being opened as a “normal” permissions and the folders with components is under “admin.” And the headache is that opening as admin isn’t a solution but instead worsens things.

You have two options overall.

  1. You can follow instructions as said at Brave doesn't start when I run it as administrator and Brave Shield doesn't work - #41 by clifton to reassign permissions of the folders again.

or

  1. If the above is too complicated, export your bookmarks & passwords (or sync to other device) so you don’t lose them, and completely uninstall Brave. If you use this method, you’ll have to check the box like below when you uninstall. It purges all folders, so it would be like you never had Brave installed in the first place, which is why I said to backup/sync any important information like passwords or bookmarks. Then you’d install Brave again and can import the data again (or add to the sync chain) so you haven’t lost all of that.

Obviously the first option is better, but some people find the second method easier and/or less confusing.

Gave the first one a try, and it didn’t seem to work for me.

The second option isn’t really ideal, but should it come to it I’ll have to :’)

Just to update, I caved and and reinstalled (I cleared all data via revo uninstaller) and after that I can now view and stream DRM content  thanks for everyone’s help <3

@DazzerJ97 glad to hear resolved. Sucks the first didn’t work. Not sure if you just needed to be sure you had exited Brave and that’s what the holdup was or why the first attempt failed. Either way, should be good.

And do keep note in mind of not opening as administrator.

Oh, before I forget.

Right click and Run as administrator is one way of doing what I’m saying you Should not do.

But other thing people often don’t notice if if you right click the icon you have to launch Brave → Properties → Compatibility there is also a checkbox there you should make sure isn’t selected.

It’s either of these that tends to be the issue for quite a few

Do not run as administrator, this is big takeaway in general
