Are you using a non-English language in the address bar? If so, it’s a known issue we’re working to resolve. https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/issues/49272

No, same issue with English.

I am also on Tumbleweed, using English, and I confirm this problem on the release channel version of Brave. I installed the Nightly version last night, the problem does not happen with the Nightly.

Be aware that you should copy your ‘Default’ directly from the ‘Brave-Browser’ parent directory into the ‘Default’ of ‘Brave-Browser-Nightly’ , to keep your settings and history while using nightly. Then copy back, if you want to return to the Release channel. Both versions can be installed at the same time.

English is the default language in my desktop, and I was not using any special characters while the browser was crashing. Just a single letter into the address/search bar provoked the crash, every time in the last couple of days. I am using the real builds, not flatpaks.

The problem may have been only been exposed on the address / search bar. It’s likely Wayland related, but I did not back down to X11.

Brave 1.84.89 (Official Build) nightly works OK, with Chromium 140.0.7339.186 underneath.

See also my crash backtrace, also running in en_US, pure ASCII, here:

I can confirm that the crash appears to go away with Brave 1.84.89

Just wanted to chime in here and say that I was having the same issue with 1.82.170 on Debian 13. I’m using the nightly now and it’s not crashing for me.

Recent update to stable version 1.82.172 / Chromium: 140.0.7339.207 fixed this issue for me.
