Description of the issue: yesterday i could access a built-in feature of translating webpages by Google. Today, after opening the browser after an automatic update, the options for translating webpages are missing.
How can this issue be reproduced?
There should be a button on an URL bar (near the Speedreader button) to translate entire page and there should be an option to translate selection after the right-click on highlighted text.
Expected result: any option of translating the website without using separate Google Translate page or any alternatives like extentions
Brave Version (check About Brave): 1.87.186 (update from 12/02/2026)
Additional Information: I’m using Google as a default search engine (as suggested by one topic, without any success), the only difference between yesterday (when i still could access the feature) and today was updating the browser. The options in settings are still present, but turning them off and on doesn’t work.
That suggestion was for those who want it to translate only selected text. Brave’s translate only works by doing whole page translation or nothing, at least at this point.
But it can and does do the full translation. For example, I set DuckDuckGo as my default search engine and then went to the ElPais link I mentioned earlier. Not only did the translate thing appear in the address bar, but if I just right click without highlighting something, I have the option to translate the page.
However, as stated earlier, you can’t translate selected text through other search engines.
Last thing, what do you have set at brave://settings/languages? For example, mine originally said not to offer to translate for Spanish. I’m not sure when or why that changed as I don’t remember ever telling it not to offer. Once removed from that portion, it offered to translate again.
I should also make sure to point out that it only shows in the address bar if the website reports itself as a different language than yours and it’s not something you marked to never translate.
For example, 日本語コミュニティ[jpn]の投稿について！ is pretty much all in Japanese. But this site is coded as if it’s all in English. So when we visit, it’s not recognizing that the content is in different language and won’t offer to translate in the address bar. Instead it’s only able to be enabled by right clicking on the page and choose to translate.
There are a number of sites I have found that are all set to tell the browsers that they are in English even when content is written in something else. This isn’t the fault of the browser but is the website which isn’t really communicating to the browsers well enough.

Completely, i tried a variety of websites - the ones i use on day-to-day basis and random picks with other languages and I couldn’t manage to have the options reinstated.
Sadly, even when changing to other search engine like DuckDuckGo, there aren’t any translation options showing up on URL bar or after right-clicking highlighted text.
It’s basically the same as Your screenshot, although i have additional languages under the “never offer to translate these languages” section.
So when I check on that website, it appears to be an option for me. If it’s not appearing for you, then I am curious what might be happening.
Could you try in a new browser profile to see if it works there? This is the three dot menu on the top right → more tools → add new profile. This creates a second profile with no extensions and many settings at default. Nothing will be lost or changed from your main profile.
Without making any changes, visit this site and any others to see if it shows up. This can help identify if it’s a changed setting or extension that might be causing the problem.
A side workaround I personally came up with when using Brave Search, but I want to be able to translate a selection of text, is I wrote a Bookmarklet to drop into my toolbar of Brave. It works by letting me select text, then if I click the Bookmarklet, it’ll run it through Google Translate in a new tab (auto-detecting the language). (It even has a fallback in case you DON’T select text, so you can paste text in if it’s in the clipboard instead.)
Only quirk, it’s not a URL, it’s Javascript in the bookmark itself. (Hence “Bookmarklet”.)
I can’t paste the code without this forum destroying it, but I can screenshot it, and yes you can type it like this, Ctrl+A and paste it in the Bookmark’s “URL” field.
It seems to be the same as on main profile - no button on URL bar and no option on right-clicking highlight.
It’s a good and clever workaround that I’ll use for the time, although i would love to have the original options available, as they were very time efficient.
@Hilosiak can you please share a screenshot of what your Translate settings look like in the browser? Additionally, to confirm, if you’re on a page that requires translation (like the one you linked earlier), if you right click on the page without selecting any text, you still don’t see the Translate to english option in the context menu?
