Brave keeps freezing on me. Tried to reinstall, deleted history and any data from the start (i thought it was loading all that data). Tried to play with the settings (hardware acceleration and that stuff), and nothing so far has helped. I had acrobat reader extension, disabled that, still freezes.
Please edit your Original Post (âOPâ) above, in order to include your Operating System and its version numbers.
Testing . . .
When you get a chance, in a Brave Browser New Window, go to: brave://settings/privacy and Disable all of the Data collection switches.
Also go to: brave://settings/clearBrowserData and using the Basic tab, with Time range > All time . . . Enable all of the switches and click the Delete data button.
Exit / Quit everything and restart your computer. Test your issue.
More testing . . . If you have extensions that you installed:
Create a new user Profile for Testing:
Create and use AN ADDITIONAL Brave Browser user Profile (Menu --> More tools --> Add profile) - only â meaning: Do not have any other Brave Browser user Profile tabs/windows open.
When creating this new Brave Browser user Profile for test purposes
Do not import anything.
Do not add any extensions.
Do not allow/enable any Brave Browser âbells and whistlesâ such as Brave Rewards, Brave Talk, etc.
IF this test Brave Browser user Profile does not present your problem, then possibly, the profile that you have been using, has a problem . . . and that might be caused by one or more extensions, or too many tabs â complex/conundrum.
Detailed info about testing - IF, in regard to memory and performance issues:
@wtgwegwgsd is it âfreezingâ when youâre going between websites? When watching videos? Or what exactly are you doing when the issue occurs? Is it on all sites or only some?
It sounds like a you have done a decent amount of things to try to narrow down issues. As 289wk mentioned, it can be helpful if you test with a second browser profile to see if it happens there as well. That second profile will run with no extensions and with most settings to default.
Beyond that, I would be curious if you can check Task Manager. Not only your OS one but check Braveâs Task Manager (Shift+Esc is default keybind, or you can access via three line hamburger menu â more tools â task manager). It would be nice to know if youâre seeing high memory usage or whatâs going on when you notice the freezes, not to mention to know what is causing the increase.
Also, if you install Brave Beta or Brave Nightly and try to use it, does it have the same issue or do they work with no issues?
If those also have issues, then please try Chrome and advise if it has problems.
Checking all of this will help narrow down a lot more and hopefully let us guide you to a solution.
Oh, and also please make sure to mention which OS youâre on. Such as if on Windows, to know that but also to be aware of whether itâs Windows 10 or 11.
