Address Bar randomly gets locked in Visible position while scrolling on version 1.78.96 of mobile browser

Troubleshooting technical issues is much easier when both the user and support agent practice clear communication. For this reason, we have provided the template below for you to fill out with information about your issue. Please provide as much detail as possible so we can most efficiently resolve your problem.

Description of the issue: Ever since updating my mobile browser to the latest version a few days ago, the address bar will randomly get locked in place, and will no longer hide when scrolling down the page. Problem occurs both with bottom address bar and with top address bar.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. When scrolling down a page, the address bar randomly becomes locked in the “visible” state, no matter how many times you scroll down the page or how far down you try to scroll. It seems to be random when this bug appears, because I can be browsing multiple pages and hiding the address bar on each without issues, only to have it lock up when I go to a different tab for the same site.
  2. Once the bug happens, the address bar stays locked even when moving to new tabs or deleting old tabs.
  3. The only way I have found to reset the bug temporarily is to forcibly close Brave and re-open it. Just hitting “Force Stop” in the app info page resets the problem for under a minute, while closing the app THEN hitting “Force Stop” resolves it for much longer (potentially hours at a time).

Expected result: After loading a new tab or scrolling up on an existing tab, the address bar will automatically hide after scrolling down a certain distance or scrolling down a certain number of times.

**Brave Version( check About Brave): Brave 1.78.96, Chromium 136.0.7103.60 **

**Mobile Device details: motorola edge plus 5G UW (2022), Android 14; Build/U1SHS34.1-177-7-3 **

Additional Information: This bug is most annoying when trying to full-screen comics or videos, and it increases the risk of accidentally closing tabs in a group when browsing while my phone is close to my chest or partially supported by my chest while lying in bed.

This is continuing into 1.78.99 still. Top address bar and bottom tabs continue to become stuck in place instead of hiding while scrolling.

@psykken @Courier, thanks for reporting. Can you share a screen grab of this happening? I’ll surface with the team.

@steeven occasionally the bars will unstick and disappear, but it’s random when this will happen upon starting up the app.

Also, when it is stuck like this, I could infinitely scroll up or down a page without the bars disappearing.

If you need more info let me know.

I mean, I’m not really sure what you’re looking for with a screengrab. The address bar, the navigation bar, and the group tab bar are ALWAYS visible when the glitch/bug is active, but in a screenshot, it would appear no different than if someone without the glitch simply scrolled up enough to unhide the bars.

The glitch only becomes uncannily obvious when the browser page is being actively scrolled…

@Courier thanks, we’ve just released a fix that should address this. Can you confirm you’re on the latest version and that it’s resolved on your end?

I am on the latest version and the address bar is hiding now, but as I stated in the original post, it was a glitch that appeared at a random time after the browser has been completely stopped/closed and reopened, which an update will also naturally do to the browser.

I’ll see how it goes over the next few days and report back on Monday or Tuesday.

No issues with the address bar hiding for the past 3 days.

Hopefully that bug is completely resolved now.

No issues with this 1.78.102

Thanks all for confirming.
