Description of the issue: using Brave on Android Samsung Galaxy S22 on website www.instapundit.com, a news aggregator, frequently results in scrolling hanging. Press main button, turn display off, press again, turn display on, and scrolling resumes from where scrolling should have moved except for the hang, i.e., not from the same place as when the hang occurred. Multiple other readers with Android report same problem. Problem also occurs with Chrome browser. Thought it might be MalwareBytes virus protection but removed MalwareBytes and scroll hang continued.
How can this issue be reproduced?
- browse www.instapundit.com, scroll down repeatedly, eventually see scroll hang.
Expected result: No scroll hang.
Brave Version( check About Brave):1.88.133 Chromium 146.0.7680.119
Mobile Device details: Samsung Galaxy S22
Additional Information:
That might indicate a Chromium issue then, not specifically Brave, but if they can reproduce it, they might be able to push for a fix upstream.
While I wasn’t able to replicate it freezing while scrolling, it was jumpy while scrolling, and at one point, the scroll bar got immensely corrupt as seen in my screenshot here. So something very much is happening when the page is scrolled, that’s for certain.
I have the same exact issue: Scrolling gets stuck sometimes
What is interesting is that I tested your website too and scrolling didnt freeze. So we are having the same issue but it doesnt happen in the same websites.
Does the website where you are experiencing the problem have many article links on the webpage?
I don’t see this problem with innumerable other websites, but none of them are news aggregators with many article links on each webpage.
I also experience this issue in chrome://flags page where scrolling freezes, and that page has zero clickable links.
Website where I usually experience this freezing is a job search website which does have links a lot. But I didnt have this issue in the past, I also didnt experience this issue in chrome://flags page.
The easiest way to reproduce my issue is to go to chrome://flags page, scroll all the way down, then slowly scroll up. Scrolling will freeze and the page will jump. It usually freezes multiple times on that page.
Do you have smooth scrolling flag enabled? If yes, we should do some testing by turning it off.
Ok, that right there really may actually be a bug, and not related to the website then.
It’s odd, you both have the same issue, but not on the same page. I couldn’t replicate it either, but my scroll bar got so messed up that clearly there’s something about scrolling in general that might be going on.
I’ll try and use my phone a bit later tonight on Brave (busy at the moment) and just visit random sites and news pages, and scroll and read. See if I can get in any situation where scrolling stops.
I do know, on Android in ://flags if you have 'TreesInViz` enabled, scrolling can potentially lock up, but usually so does tapping in general (the UI freezes sort of). By chance, none of you enabled that flag?
I have that flag disabled. This bug is hard to reproduce, sometimes I have it and sometimes I dont have it. But I always have this bug in chrome://flags.
Wow, I just cleared browser cache and data, then installed the latest bravemonoarm64.apk from github. And scrolling seems really smooth. Lag in chrome://flags is all gone. @MasterLink
And, before clearing cache / appdata I made a html5test and I got 514, after clearing cache and appdata I did the test again and got 569. So clearly my Brave had something wrong and clearing cache and data fixed it.
