No New private window option in jump list for Brave Origin

How do I get the private window option in the jump list like the normal version of Brave has?

@mjwish can you confirm that the version of Origin you’re using is fully updated? Additionally, you do see the Private window option in the main menu when the browser is open, right? It’s just not appearing in the context menu when you right-click on the Origin in the taskbar?

It says Brave is up to date. Yes the option is in the main menu, just not in the jump list on the task bar. But I hate having to open a non-private window to open a private one, when I was able to do that with the normal Brave.

Am I the only one experiencing this issue? If not, when will this be fixed?

Apologies for the late reply here – yes I can reproduce this issue as well. I’ve logged the following issue for our devs to review:

@mjwish can you please try opening Origin, browsing some sites, then closing the tabs. Then, close/relaunch the browser and check the jump list again to see if the correct options appear?

I just tried this and it did not work. I even tried re-pinning it to the task bar and it is just the same as the screenshot I initially posted.

If you browed in Origin, closed all the tabs, then closed the app then relaunched and nothing changed then there’s something else going on here. Thank you for testing.

You’re welcome. I just tried the steps you told me on another computer and it fixed it on that one, but still it isn’t working on my main computer unfortunately.

Something similar happened to me with the regular Brave like a year ago after it had been working for a long time, the options just disappeared. I found this post and it fixed it for me back then:

I didn’t want to mess with trying this with the Brave Origin due to it probably having different unique IDs and such, but perhaps it will help you diagnose how I can correct it for Brave Origin if there are similar files that I can just copy into the locations for it? I just have no knowledge on how to identify which ones I would need. If you can let me know which file is relevant for Brave Origin, I can try copying over the file from the computer it is working on to see if that fixes it? If my current issue is even related to those files, which I don’t know, but seemed like something worth trying. I really appreciate you looking into this.

Welp, right after I posted that I decided to look in that folder on the computer it is working on and found a file that was just created today and it is 2e6a241e0f7935b1.customDestinations-ms

When I copied that file from the computer it is working on, to the one it is not working on, it immediately started working. So whatever you guys did to make it work initially made it work on my other computer and just adding the step of copying this one file to the computer it wasn’t working on to the below path made it start working on that one as well.

Copied this file from the working computer: 2e6a241e0f7935b1.customDestinations-ms

To this path on the non-working computer: C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\CustomDestinations

I have hosted the file here in case anyone else experiences this issue and needs it:

Thank you for sharing the solution. Not sure why that file is missing but we’ll take a look and hopefully be able to prevent his from happening in the future.

You’re welcome. Thank you for getting it fixed in general so that it worked on my other computer. I’m not sure why that file was not created on my main computer though. But I’ll leave that to be figured out by the experts
