Graphic Acceleration issue

When Graphic acceleration is on text gets distorted videos black and artifacts pop out for no reason all over the browser until i turn it off. I hope this will get fixed soon in future updates, it happened maybe 4 updates ago.

Thanks for the response, i did that graphic drivers are the latest they didn’t cause this, i turned off braves graphic acceleration before writting the first feedback it fixed the problem but the browser is working much slower because it only uses CPU instead of both GPU and CPU i just hope that in future updates this gets fixed because it’s not really productive to have it turned off so that the browser could function.

I tried other browsers and they don’t have this issue when graphic acceleration is on, so the issue is not on my end it just happened few updates ago on brave.

Hi, Welcome to the Community!

FYI, click on the arrow down on the right side or the header link for more info:

I’d encourage you in the future to use the Community Search option, the magnifying glass at the top right, the default isn’t TOO helpful but if you click on it then get the popdown search function, click the FILTERS button on the right side of search field which leads you to https://community.brave.app/search then choose in the “Sort By” option at the bottom right “Latest Post” and you could have found the above as I did via: https://community.brave.app/search?q=graphic%20acceleration%20order%3Alatest

So following the troubleshooting tips within the above link here (& more below), it sounds like you’ve updated everything at this point so some other stuff it mentions to try is:

  • Do you have anything at all under brave://flags/ set as enabled / not default?
  • Have you tried the same steps in Chrome. Does the problem happen in Chrome as well?

Maybe try following the rest of the steps here too:

@Lane_Divi just so you know, enabling graphics acceleration just means your GPU is handling the processes like rendering of graphics rather than putting the full burden on your CPU.

When an issue occurs with it enabled and goes away when it’s off, it often means there’s an incompatibility in settings. Usually it’s within the graphics card settings itself. Graphics cards come “out of the box” to work with mainstream browsers like Edge, Safari, Chrome, and Firefox. But they aren’t always pre-packaged to work with other browsers, even if they are Chromium.

The big headache typically comes in a person having to figure out what setting is off and try to change it. Again, this usually would be in the graphics card settings such as NVIDIA Control Panel, where you can change setting specifically for how it handles Brave.

Also, when you are having issues, you could always take a look at brave://gpu to see what all it tells you. But I’m not sure how well you’d be in understanding all of the information and problems it shows there.

Similarly, in Chrome you would have chrome://gpu

-NOTE

Also you have to always consider anything like extensions you’re using, settings changed, Shields filters, etc.

Key thing is, knowing you have some issue of black videos or artifacts isn’t enough to really be able to guide you. There are many little things that can impact things.

Equally, when you’re reporting problems, you always need to give better information. For example:

  • You never said what version of Brave you’re using, such as 1.23.456.
  • Didn’t specify if you’re on Windows 10, Windows 11, or what?
  • Since it’s graphics related, probably is good to share what graphics card you have.
  • Is it all videos on all sites or only particular sites this issue occurs?
  • Does it happen in private window?
  • Does it happen in a new browser profile?

And, as I recall, re Brave Browser and GPU

When Brave Browser Graphics Acceleration is OFF, websites will “think” that the browser is not supporting WebGL:
