Error Closing tabs

When I right-click on a tab and choose to close it, Brave closes the current window I have open instead of closing the tab I clicked on. Chrome works normally; the problem only happens with Brave. I can’t manage to close the specific tabs I want to close. Please help, the issue started today.

This is a known issue and has an open Github. It’s going to be looked into. For now isn’t much of anything that can be done.

Before a recent update a non active tab could be closed by

  1. right click on the non active tab desired to be closed
  2. select close from the drop down menu

and that tab would close

Historically and desired:

  1. right click on a non active tab that you want to close
  2. select close from the drop down menu
  3. that non-active tab closes

This is reproducible and even after reboots and/or restarts of Brave.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Have at least 2 tabs open.

  2. While under one tab, right-click another tab.

I have the same issue as what everyone else is describing rn.

Description of the issue: Tabs won’t close as intended when I click on them to close. I usually got multiple tabs open and since 1.83.112 update I can’t close the tabs I want.

How can this issue be reproduced? When I right click on a passive tab to close it, the browser will close the active tab, but leaves the clicked passive open. So when I listen to an audio/watch video, I have to go to the tab I want to close, click on it and close it with the X. So, passive tabs can’t be closed with right click-close, because Brave always closes the active tab. Uninstalled, reinstalled, no change. Ideas?

Expected result: When I right click on any tab and want to close it; it should close as intended, and the active tabs should stay open.

Hey! When I close one tab through right clicking, it closes the current tab I’m in instead. Been happening for a few days.

Why is this not being fixed yet?

It’s been a full week since this problem was posted….

Probably some sort of line of code that mismatches what action it does.

Can’t be so hard to tweak it in a few hours and send out a update, no?

Not sure what I’m missing here, will be using Firefox for now on

The problem has persisted after up dating to brave browser v1.83.112

  1. Other items have taken higher priority at the moment.

  2. Developers don’t just sit idle and wait for bug reports to appear. They already have assigned tasks and schedules, so new issues get reviewed and ranked based on severity and impact.

  3. This particular issue is considered low priority since it only affects users who close tabs via right-click instead of using the X button. The core functionality still works.

  4. Even seemingly small bugs can take time to diagnose and fix, especially when teams are already focused on other matters.

That’s possible, but identifying one specific line out of millions isn’t as simple as it sounds.

If it seems straightforward, the codebase is open source, so you’re free to take a look or even propose a fix.

For context, the GitHub issue was actually created three days ago. Brave’s team isn’t large, and they don’t operate around the clock. Development schedules and triage priorities determine how quickly things move.

Mainly that bug resolution isn’t instantaneous. Even at larger organizations like Google, minor issues can take weeks or months. Patience and perspective go a long way when it comes to development timelines.

When I right click a tab to close, instead of closing that right clicked tab, it closes the one I was on. Which is MADDENING !!!

They have a fix coming.
