Hi,
as displayed on the update page I ran “sudo apt install curl” then had no internet (curl installer uninstalled network-manager).
Then reboot… nope, the os is bricked, won’t boot.
Can someone help me on this one ?
I’ve tried “apt-get install network-manager” before rebooting, this updated a lot of things from local files I suppose, as the internet was down.
After this i could scan for wifi but impossible to connect.
Little bummed that my 10yo computer died, might be a sign to buy a new one
Very strange, it doesn’t make sense.
Unless when run apt-get command to install curl, it offered the option to upgrade the entire operating system (and may have crashed in the middle of the process, leaving dependency errors).
The command to install a package does not uninstall other packages.
If the system doesn’t start, you’ll have to fix it via liveCD/bootloader or simply by installing a new Ubuntu on the hard drive. You don’t need to buy a new one
I really suspect that another upgrade has broken something in the system. No connection to curl or Brave.
But an important warning:
The curl -fsS https://dl.brave.com/install.sh | sh script installs Brave by adding the official Brave repository to your system, in addition to installing the browser itself.
This means that future Brave updates will occur automatically via your system’s package manager (apt, dnf, yum, zypper, etc…).
If you already have Brave installed, running the script won’t cause any crashes or problems, but you don’t need to run it again.
