Creating a new tab should focus the URL bar on iPad

When using a keyboard on the iPad, I can press Command-T to open a new tab, but the URL bar isn’t focused, so I can’t immediately type like I can on Desktop. I’m constantly creating/deleting tabs, and is a huge barrier to using Brave on iPad full time.

Edit: I see now that I can press Command L to get to the URL bar, so perhaps this isn’t as crucial, but it’s still a hassle, and new people won’t know about this option.

I have the same “problem”, set focus on the URL bar when opening a new tab would greatly improve the UX.

This is a must-have! Safari does it. I love Brave, but please focus on the URL when opening a new tab!

Yep, still the same here in 2022. It’s very annoying. I always enter the “empty” URL. I can’t remember to press cmd + L immediately after cmd+T every time… why should I do that too. It’s the only thing that hinders me in the complete transition from Safari to Brave.

Yes, please! This is obvious intuitive behavior on desktop Brave and should be on iPad as well.

I’m using mainly brave through out my devices, and in iPad when cmd+t it doesn’t focus on the search bar giving me that frustration

I really, really want this feature. It’s something I miss a lot from the DuckDuckGo iOS browser. It should be the same on iPhone, not just iPad too.

It’s really annoying, isn’t it?
Even more when it seems it would be such an easy fix.

Please, Brave, fix this issue, it’s super annoying.

I’m using Brave with iPad 12 and magic keyboard, and each time i open new tab with cmd + T i have to manually focus input for url

Please!!! This kills me too.

Same problem here, gone through all of the settings and can’t find a way to change the behaviour. Saw a post saying it should be under the “New Tab” setting, but it isn’t.

Almost considering another browser just because of this

So this is like a forever going topic and nobody thought it would be a good idea to finally implement this?

Is there someone working on QoL-Features at all?

I really like Brave a lot - especially for the cross device syncing, but this is such an annoying flaw I can’t believe it’s not being touched at all. Not even a reaction on the topic from anyone from the team?

@Saoiray did the team even notice this issue yet?

Why would anyone select a link to open in a new tab and not want to focus that tab? I’m sure there might be reasons, but I can’t imagine that those reasons would be greater than the sheer volume of people who simply want to see the link they’ve just clicked on in the new tab! Why is it that software engineers don’t see the huge win when they do something so simple for the masses? I’m a software engineer and I definitely see the win here.

Chiming in here to say this is an extremely frustrating UI implementation.
The URL Bar should be in focus automatically after CMD+T just like the desktop browser.

I 100% agree with this, this is a must for a browser and it’s really annoying that a simple thing like this isn’t implemented

I’m experiencing the same issue on the latest iOS in 2024. Command-T opens a new tab, but the URL bar isn’t focused, which disrupts the workflow. This really hinders using Brave on the iPad full time for me

I would love this feature, it would greatly improve the app on iPad with a keyboard.

Dog piling here. Same issue happening to me
Expected behavior: I open a new tab on the Brave iPad app and the curser is blinking in the tab bar ready for my to type something
Actual behavior: I open a new tab and I have to manually click into the address bar each time to type any content in.

Too many clicks/taps for the result that we get with iOS iPhone and Desktop

I have been for many years trying Brave on iPad and for this reason alone moving back to Safari. It occurred to me today that corporate America has many behind the door deals going on. Remember Google search engine deal? I am now beginning to suspect there is such a deal between Brave and Apple. I can’t imagine any other reason that such a fundamental usability bug could be open for years. (Posting this from my one more trial of Brave browser, and after this, I will be back to Safari. Good bye)

I signed up for this forum just to be able to comment here. I searched for this topic just assuming that I was too dumb to find the setting. How is it that after opening a new tab, when I obviously want anything I type to now appear in the search bar, I have to press Cmd-L to pop into the search bar … and people have been asking for this feature for 4+ years and it’s not done? This seems like the world’s easiest change. Love Brave so far as a new user but this is really, really silly. Is someone from Brave monitoring these forums?
