Come on Brave, it shouldn’t be that hard to follow basic UI guidelines. Every other browser focuses on the URL bar when you open a new tab. Let’s get it done!
Hi! When is this going to be addressed? Please make the search bar be focused when a new tab opens.
Hi dev team, it’s coming on 5 years from the start of this post and not a single word from you on even why you’re not implementing it. Is everything ok? Are you working behind the scenes to prevent a major data breach from coming to light for your users? What is going on?
To clarify I want this on all tablets not just iPads and a simple way to determine what the user wants is how the new tab was opened
- the user used the touch screeen? do nothing
- the user pressed a text shortcut to open a new tab? assume the user wants to start typing immediately like a desktop/laptop user since it’s evident that the user in interacting with their device using the same tool - AKA a keyboard!
Thanks for taking the feedback and providing for your users ![]()
Same here, please add this …
I’ve created na account just to bring more awareness to this. It is a feature that would greatly improve the experience. Please do it.
This is the issue that might eventually get me to leave Brave. Tab doesn’t focus the URL field and Cmd-arrowkey doesn’t move to the start or end. I imagine there are other related UI issues, but those are the two I notice when using a keyboard.
I don’t want to have to reach up and touch the screen constantly.
I can’t believe this bug is still open, and must be a clear indication no one at HQ is using an iPad because it’s maddening.
But for those stumbling in here, there is one small workaround: Cmd+L focuses on the URL bar. So if you get in the habit of Cmd+T Cmd+L, you can at least focus the cursor in the right spot a little faster.
Brave seems to have a thing for ignoring requests pertaining to the URL bar on iOS/iPadOS.
I would like to have this as well. Besides the auto-focus, it would be also nice to support opening links in the background with CMD+click. These 2 are the features I miss the most in the iPad.
This has been fixed and is moving down the release pipeline presently:
