Yea, please use the template, and if possible, GPU and GPU driver? This sounds honestly like a GPU driver issue to me, but without the template I’m guessing if it’s a Windows machine since you said alt+tab, what what version of Windows, etc. It all matters.
my gpu is intergrated graphics from a ryzen 5 5500U and 31.0.21914.8004 (8/20/2024)
i will give my whole specifications down below
Device name Laptop
Processor AMD Ryzen 5 5500U with Radeon Graphics (2.10 GHz)
Installed RAM 16.0 GB (15.3 GB usable)
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Edition Windows 11 Home
Version 24H2
Installed on 4/23/2025
OS build 26100.6899
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.253.0
the graphics card drivers u sent are giving me blue screen when downloading and i made a thread about it on microsoft support and they told me to use hp support drivers
That might then point back to a GPU issue (EDIT: wait, while downloading or installing?), and the newer driver is potentially having issues. However it being a laptop, laptops always end up in this weird OEM “gray area”, but I always thought that was only Intel. Maybe AMD is as well?
If the driver you have right now is AMD’s Adrenaline Edition, try updating within the driver itself like here on mine? (I know, mines out of date, but currently I have no issues, and if I do I’ll be updating first just in case).
I’m wondering, if it’s an OEM specific version, updating through here should get you the absolute correct version for your hardware. But if the same crash happens, this might be something you’d need to work with HP with because you should of course be able to update your drivers.
Out of curiosity, if you play games on this machine, has it had any corruption in games as well? (Your iGPU is of course built into your APU, so playing games stresses the SOC as a whole, but starting with drivers is a good start at this point since that’s already causing further issues and it really shouldn’t be.)
Sorry my link didn’t work… it LOOKED like the right one according to your specs but glad you got it sorted out
You might consider editing your last post (clicking the pencil icon at the bottom of it), writing what the solution was (assuming finding the right GPU Driver update was the fix, saying that if it was) and clicking the Solution button there for others for future reference,
If not no worries, just glad it fixed, figured I’d add that anyway after wanting to say the first thing I mentioned.
Awesome, glad to hear it may have been fixed. Were you able to update within Adrenaline Edition, and that’s what worked? Or did you find an alternative solution?
Since Edge had it as well, Edge, Brave, Opera, and Chrome are all based on the same Chromium source code, so it doesn’t surprise me that Edge shared the same issue. Likely a faulty driver in which the default API ANGLE was using, simply wasn’t working or behaving the way it should. That’s my educated guess based on your description which to me was honestly a great description of the issue.
Apologies but can you please describe what the actual issue is in a bit more detail? I am unable to tell what is actually happening in the videos you shared.
so when i browse web the screen can get a tear and stay in a state that was like few seconds ago and sometimes occasionaly can mix like both of the sites ig?
Ok so here’s the deal. You never stated what it was you did. I don’t know what driver you are either on. You are testing Brave with games open which is a “no no”. You aren’t doing much of anything here except being on auto-pilot and giving non-helpful replies.
Here’s the truth: Your iGPU in your 5500U is a 5th generation GCN Radeon. This is old and dated, AMD hasn’t been optimizing these drivers in years. It was very quickly replaced by RDNA, which we are on RDNA 4 now, potentially heading to RDNA 5, or something “new” replacing RDNA entirely.
I don’t know what drivers you are even on, you never mentioned once if MY recommendation worked, just auto-pilot responses.
Going forward, since you ARE running a video game when this bug happened, I can again only assume your GPU is the fault, and you are poking Chromium based browsers as the issue for it. You have not said what you have done, therefore I can assume nothing was done as asked.
About the only thing I’ve learned: Is attempting to install drivers causes Windows to crash. That is NOT a Brave issue, that is a problem with your drivers/GPU, and something you need to honestly work with them on.
Besides, why are we even trying to troubleshoot Brave any further when they couldn’t update their display driver? (At least that I know of, the last they said it crashed Windows, and then he “secretly” fixed something but never said what it was, which wasn’t enough.)
Obviously their iGPU isn’t right if they cannot update display drivers. So let’s not troubleshoot something that clearly should be back seated for now until those drivers are up to date, or we at least know what VERSION they are. Right?
When I worked at Apple, this was triaging, and we aren’t doing that here. Priority is iGPU drivers, we do not know the state of them, and we know for a fact touching them causes an issue. Therefore it is unreasonable to continue Brave support. (Unless you’re looking to cause more issues on the browser when the issue is clearly not the browser? I don’t know why everyone’s missed how updating drivers caused a crash, that’s not normal and while OEM could be to do with this, they have said nothing!)
@MasterLink keep in mind that people have different areas or levels of knowledge on topics. Also English may not be a person’s native language or even one they are fluent on. Often we have to take baby steps on things.
So far on this topic there are four different people who have responded to OP. The information communicated and requested went a few different directions.
Their topic is about potential tearing on their screen. What we haven’t found out is if this happens at all times or only under specific conditions. Also to determine if it’s related to the graphics card specifically, hence why I asked about disabling Graphics Acceleration.
In addition, testing if extensions or other settings may play a part. But these are things you seem to automatically be dismissing.
You are absolutely correct that trying to get drivers updated will be something they want to do. And this may be contributing to or causing the issue. But there is no harm in making sure we’re getting relevant details that can help see the big picture. Then can take it a step at a time from there.
And yes, I read the entire conversation. I saw the part you did the screenshot of. This is why I said, “to confirm.” I asked them, not you.
You’re assuming. They said a blue screen and you jumped to thinking BSOD. But you nor anyone else ever figured out exactly what was seen. Nor did anyone slowly ask about it to get more details. So right now I’m trying to walk through this with OP to make sure they can be on the same page. Then put the pieces of the puzzle together.
yes, im sorry i learned english as my 4th language officially i am from poland and I speak polish
my level of knowledge is small and i dont really know much about browsing nor about computronics really i just know some small things and about games
I want to thank you for being patient with me and trying to help as a person really
I’ve done everything @MasterLink told me to but his answers didnt really make sense since he was talking advanced knowledge things i didnt know about since.. well now
i leave a picture of my amd software to confirm i updated my drivers…
So yeah the problem was solved by turning off graphics acceleration since i had it on
it always made problems anywhere it was it might be because of the integrated graphics im running on my laptop (im running for like last 50 minutes and no cuts i saw)
also i dont have any money right now to upgrade my components as masterlink said and i think that running a browser shouldnt cost me a new pc
i was getting BSOD because of some windows setting i dont remember which one but i think i there was something in my BIOs that made it impossible to update without BSOD
