Description of the issue:
My Brave browser turned completely transparent today, and I cannot really interact with it. I have attached a screenshot to show what I am seeing. I can collapse the window or close it, but I am not able to see anything on the Brave screen specifically. I have tried restarting my computer, reopening Brave, nothing worked. I can not uninstall the program since that action pops up the Brave window, and you have to confirm to confirm the uninstall using the browser itself that I can not use (which is really bad design for the record).
I do not know how to reproduce this, it happened when I opened up my Brave browser today
Expected result:
I am able to either use my browser like normal or at least able to uninstall it
Brave Version( check About Brave):
Latest version (I can’t check About Brave since the client is not responding): 139.1.81.131 (grabbed this from Windows Control Panel)
Additional Information:
I am on Desktop client, Windows 11 specifically
I would recommend un/reinstalling if you’re comfortable with it as it would likely resolve this the quickest for you. This:
Is not true. Not sure what method you’re using to uninstall but instead, in Windows, go to Add/Remove programs, find Brave in the list and elect to uninstall. This will use the Windows uninstall flow and the browser will not be launched.
Thank you for the response. I would not make this post if that was not true lol. I can make a screen recording if you need it, but please do not claim that I lied. I tried both using Windows route and then Your Uninstaller. I can also show you other user posts in the community that show that this could happen (uninstall prompting Brave browser to be opened). This behavior is not uncommon for apps though, many of them do so to ask for survey etc. It just sucks when the uninstall process require me opening an app that I am trying to uninstall.
I tried a couple of things, and it seemed like the only thing that worked was add “–disable-gpu” flag before opening the app. The browser now opens, but I also had to disable hardware acceleration to make sure it works properly. The boot time is slower than before, is there a way I can fix the black/transparent screen issue without disabling hardware acceleration?
It depends on what is causing the initial issue. If the browser was working fine previously and only recently started displaying this way then something must have changed with the most recent update or potentially with an extension you have installed in the browser.
I would love to see a screen recording of you using the Windows system uninstall process launching the browser.
@Popdupe,
There are a couple of ways to do this – you can right-click on the Brave shortcut on your desktop, then click Properties. In the Target field, after the last quotation mark, go ahead and type in --disable-gpu and save the shortcut. Then launch Brave from the shortcut you just edited.
Nvm i was able to add “–disable-gpu” but it’s still not working… Also everything else it still interactable but it’s just the blur that’s in the way
For anyone anyone experiencing this issue here, is the stable/release channel of Brave the only version of the browser you have installed? That is, you do not have Brave Beta or Nightly installed on your system?
I’m using Release v1.81.131 - I’d say it’s no coincidence this was pushed to main by brave-builds 13 hours ago and now many people are having the same issue.
I’ve not updated so this must have been done automatically.**

I had to end task on Brave and then I managed to uninstall - Re-installing the latest stable release causes me to have the same issue. I installed nightly as a test and that is working fine.
Win11 Pro 24H2
AMD Ryzen 5800X3D
AMD 6800XT running AMD adrenalin 25.8.1 released 24/07/2025
No GPU driver or Windows updates since it was working yesterday.
Do you still need a recording if other users are reporting the same issue with uninstall? Another data point for you is that I am also using Stable. I can use the browser now after using “disable-gpu”.
System specs:
Windows 11 Home
Intel i7-12700k
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3800TI (the issue happens with both the latest driver and another driver that I tried)
Same issue here, browser was working really well in a morning tried to relaunch it just now and now it’s blank disable-gpu helps but still got afraid that some files might get corrupted
