Browser background player is not working

I have a huge problem with my Brave browser app, I’ve been using it for a long time and now it is no longer playing Youtube videos in background, which is the main reason I started using the app in the first place. I updated the app and tried to restart my phone but it just won’t play in background anymore. It’s really stressfull because I need it everyday.

What can I do?

Try searching for existing topics and then follow their advice? To quote myself from another post:

It’s just YouTube screwing with things in different ways. One of the older ways or kind of bypassing is to open another tab and switch to it. YouTube will continue playing in the background and will continue to do so even if you switch apps.

But if you’re actually on the YouTube page as your primary focus and then switch apps or whatever, it will stop. I’m pretty sure this is just YouTube with listeners or whatever for it as a means to try to prevent it from working. They want you to pay for YouTube Premium.

I tried it but it still won’t play on the background

@User272 you’re playing a video and then opening a brand new tab and switching to it? Don’t switch back. It should play, right? If so, then when switching apps it should.

This has long worked for both iOS and Android. I know currently is definitively working for iPhone. Not sure if something changed on Android but haven’t heard of this not quite working.

As soon as I close the video tab to use another website or app on my phone it stops playing. Sorry, I’m a noob at this

You don’t actually mean close but you mean switch from it, right?

Also, you do have the setting for background play enabled via Settings → Media, right?

Yes, it was the first thing I checked and it is enabled to reproduce on background

I just tested on two different Android devices and can’t replicate. In fact, the Android devices don’t even need the workaround I mentioned earlier either. That workaround used to be needed for Android and is currently needing to be done on iPhone.

Looking back to Android, last week:

I’m pretty sure they are keeping an eye out on it. As they mentioned, it may be YouTube A/B testing.

You may also want to test what he mentioned in terms of playing when signed out, such as in a private mode.
