Braved crashed with no icon in the start menu, no icon on desktop and lost all passwords for the fifth time.

Upon startup I went to discover Brave lost the entire password database, all icons are removed, no icon on desktop. Cant open in start menu I have to choose “new window”.

Brave has lost passwords 5 times on me.

Thankfully for anything using Passkey my Yubikey is the password. Protonmail does not and had the backup csv. But still ! almost locked me out.

Can you please provide some additional information about your setup/issue?

  • What OS are you using at this time? Additionally, what Brave version do you have installed?
  • Did this issue occur after the browser updated?
  • Did this issue occur after a system update?
  • Do you have Brave Sync enabled at this time?
  • Is all of your other data still in the browser (that is, only password data was lost)?
  • Have you made any changes to your OS login password recently?
  • If you remove the shortcuts from the taskbar/start menu then re-add them, are you still unable to launch the browser?

An uninstall and install fixed the launching and logo issue. But the update absolutely wiped cookies and saved random passwords. Brave has deleted passwords on me 5 times.

Windows 11. It happened just after booting up and saw it broken. Was working the night beforehand.

I am on Windows 11. Windows updated two days ago. I have no idea about a browser update. It crashed logging me out of everything when logging in not while in use. I lost all my passwords upon logging back into Windows a month or so ago.

I was unable to uninstall it said the uninstaller was missing. I had to force to remove it from the list. And reinstall. But the icon is missing in the task bar and on the desktop.
