Description of the issue: while on brave on mobile data on proton VPN I legit get captchas every second or 3rd search. I got probably 12 in the last 20 min. It feels more like kiwi flare on the farms trying to stop DDoS or something.

This is specifically the brave slide the circle to the circle on the distortion background captcha.

How can this issue be reproduced?

I may not have explained myself well. I am using brave search. Brave search is serving the captcha before showing me results.

I’ve had exactly the same experience, but no fix so far.

Yes, Brave search doesn’t like Proton VPN, for some bizarre reason!

I haven’t tried another VPN, & am not being forced to use the Brave VPN!

I hope that this is resolved ASAP, because it forces users to seek other browsers.

Same here. It started showing up for me today in the USA. Just like what OP said, every few minutes it shows up. I got frustrated answering so many CAPTCHAs from Amazon. I tried switching VPN servers and no dice. So now I’m just exploring other search engines in the mean-time. Hope it gets fixed soon!

I have similar issue started when I switched NextDNS DoH with Proton VPN to Proton VPN own DNS servers.

Mobil device S25

Kill switch ON

Proton VPN ON on device start.

Android advance protection ON + max device protection ON

I am not getting the captcha prompts on similar set Mac - Also Proton VPN, kill switch on, early connection, DNS with Proton own DNS servers, Lockdown mode ON.

Just additional context:

Proton VPN free service(I bought annual protonmail but did so with google pay. Terrible idea if you want to update an existing subscription with an additional service I. E. you can’t)

Location is Japan Free #2 (I’ve gotten it on different “free” servers which I assume have different IPs. I should have tracked that.)

Home WiFi in a out of the box configuration

Xfinity copper service

I’m am using brave search to find a supplier for highback gutters. Its all I’ve searched for the last 20 min. I have gotten no less than 8 slide captchas in the last 5 min. The more I do consecutive searches the more frequently they take place.

Adding context incase one of the devs want to test with Proton VPN Free since it wouldn’t cost anything except the time to create and account.

P. S. After writing the above portion I wanted to test some to see if I could reproduce the behavior before posting. I was able to reproduce it by just searching through different similar search criteria “install gutters on house”, “install gutters on fascia”, “install gutters on mobile home", “install gutters on rubber roof". This is manual typing in the different modifiers after “on" at the speed you would typically navigate a browser when researching something. Switching results criteria between All, Images, News, and Video would also trigger it since I assume its resending the query to populate the initial results for that criteria.

Not sure if it helps but I wanted to provide more context incase.

P. P. S.

I assume clicking the back button resends the search query, and doesn’t just show a cached page? This was me clicking back on a search query for “brave community” to get to the forum. I iterated through all the criteria All, Images, News, and Video before clicking on the “Brave Community” URL at the top of the sear h results I did not complete any of these before pressing back again. After pressing back 5 times I ended up back a previous search query without having to solve any captcha.
