In a Brave Browser New Window, go to: brave://prefs-internals/

The default search engine that has been chosen, will be found under default_private_search_provider_data . . . you might take a look.

Some things that might interfere:

  • cache
  • cookie
  • browsing history (“power of suggestion?!” maybe)
  • corrupt setting(s) storage (“file got dinged”)
  • extension(s)
  • hosts file?
  • some other application
  • some redirect setting/switch
  • sync with other computing devices
  • Windows Registry?

Take a look at:

Check for a browser hijacker.

Thank you for your suggestion, jaybird. I’m not sure what a ‘browser hijacker’ would look like but it sounds scary. Happily enough, after 2+ weeks of switching to *“Edge”*:face_vomiting:, the “problem” seemingly solved itself: (The issue began immediately after the last Brave update coincided with a Windows 10 update…) A week ago, I had NEW updates for Windows & my A/V waiting. My A/V asked if I wanted to update Brave too. Since it wasn’t even loading…:woman_shrugging:
When I woke up the next AM, the updates had run, so I cautiously clicked on my shortcut (I hadn’t “deleted & reinstalled” as suggested by “experts” cuz I was afraid I’d lose everything stored in Brave for the past 3 years!:scream:): It loaded like it had never had a problem! Next, I checked “Search”: *No redirect!!*:raising_hands::raising_hands::tada:Whoo-hoo!
At this time I still don’t know if the problem was with Brave or Windows:woman_shrugging:. All I do know is that it’s back, working like a champ and I’m not having to limp along with Edge:face_vomiting::angry_face_with_horns:! Using it only proved everything I despise about using a MS browser: It takes me back to the “bad old days” of using ‘school’ PCs w/out choice of browsers and having to put up with constant Ads and it’s very “parental”: Doesn’t like you using a VPN and won’t allow MY YouTube Purchases to run without telling me I must PURCHASE an additional media player add in!
I’m very grateful for my discovery of Brave, back in 2020, when Firefox got hijacked by weirdos!
Thanks again! Take care!

@Rev20_7PTL going to close this thread for now but if the issue occurs again please let us know.
