Brave completely loses its “Last Saved Location” session memory when downloading files back-to-back from the same website/tab. Instead of remembering the folder selected during the first download, every subsequent download window defaults back to the global system ‘Downloads’ folder. This breaks the operating system’s native duplicate-detection/auto-increment naming feature (e.g., automatically suggesting “cover (1)” when a file named “cover” already exists in the folder).
Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary):
Open a project on Canva and click Download for an edited image.
When the ‘Save As’ file dialog window opens, manually change the directory from the default ‘Downloads’ folder to the ‘Pictures’ folder.
Name the file “cover” and click Save.
Immediately edit or select the next image on the same Canva page and click Download again.
Actual Result: The second ‘Save As’ pop-up window ignores the previously used folder and opens up in the default ‘Downloads’ folder again. Because it opens in the wrong folder, it cannot see the original “cover” file, forcing the user to manually select the ‘Pictures’ folder again and manually type out the name “cover (1)”.
Expected result: The second download window should automatically open up directly in the last used folder (‘Pictures’) for that active session. Because the folder contains the file “cover”, the browser/OS should automatically auto-fill the file name as “cover 1” or “cover (1)” without user intervention.
Reproduces how often: 100% of the time / Consistently on back-to-back downloads.
Additional Information: This issue disrupts continuous workflows. Changing the master default download location in Brave settings to the ‘Pictures’ folder is not an acceptable solution, as the browser should natively cache the last used path during an active tab session. The issue persists even when downloading identical file types (PNG/JPEG) consecutively.
But I just did some digging and found exactly where the problem is:
Direct links work fine: If I right-click a random image on the web and use “Save image as…”, Brave actually works perfectly. It remembers the last folder.
Web app buttons break it: The glitch only happens when I click internal download buttons inside sites like Canva, Google Flow or Google Drive.
When I use those Canva/Drive buttons in Edge, it handles the folder memory and auto-naming perfectly. But in Brave, it completely forgets the folder and resets back to the default Downloads folder on every single click.
yes i am having same issue where is the last time i downloaded file it wont show for the next download file where i last time downloaded it at. please we need a fix for this issue.
