Description of the issue:
How can this issue be reproduced?
I’ve tried to watch 2 YouTube “Movie” videos
I get a black screen that says can’t play on browser get the app.
Expected result: I was hoping to watch some movies here.
Brave Version( check About Brave): 1.86
Mobile Device details iPad
Additional Information: I thought it has worked well with other YTube video’s / I think it could be me, or a setting. I have a Playlist of movies and books .. the books will play. I wanted to watch a YouTube Free to watch “Fried Green Tomatoes” … It will play on the Roku TV set but I wanted to change rooms and use the iPad to watch. And got repeated rejections , and told to get the YT app to watch
Do not sign in to Google Sphere/Eco-System (includes YouTube). Use a Brave Browser Private Window - Brave Global Shields UP but Site-Specific Brave Shields . . . Brave Lion icon adjacent to right end of the URL address field; Advanced Controls > have Block ScriptsDisabled.
Sometimes, your computing device’s IP address on the Internet, is in a range of IP addresses currently blocked/frustrated by YouTube - but possibly, you can change to a different IP address via changing a VPN connection. Certain YouTube videos that are “free” without advertising, will not play on Brave Browser, so I try Firefox or Vivaldi Internet browsers.
@Mattches I believe you are an iOS user? I’d say check the Widevine setting but this is iOS and don’t own an iOS device (nor know of an emulator so I can can be familiar with it).
Actually not an iOS user (macOS for work though) but I do have an iPad for testing. However, this is not a Brave issue.
@bbsnooks This seems to be a Youtube restriction/limitation they have imposed on the free movies on YT specifically. Testing on both my iPad and Android devices, I see the same message telling me to use the app. Happens in Chrome and Firefox apps as well.
I will go ahead and ask our Shields/webcompat folks to see if there is any way around it but can’t guarantee a fix here.
Some videos (movies) are needed for non-mobile, the owner the media is requesting desktop only (rights management). A quick fix would be to watch video in desktop mode
