Youtube webpage hangs on first attempt browsing

Description of the issue:
How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. First attempt to browse a Youtube video webpage

  2. Mouse not responding to the Youtube navigation seek

  3. Click the Brave browser’s refresh button and exit and reload again then work.

Expected result:

Normal mouse interaction, Youtube video webpage should not hang, and this problem happens quite frequently on first attempt to browse a Youtube video website. Other browsers like Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge are working normally.

Brave 1.84.139 (Official Build) (64-bit) Chromium: 142.0.7444.163

Additional Information:
Microsoft Windows 11 Version 22H2 (OS Build 22621.6060)
Intel Core i7 6700 DDR4 32GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER 8GB VRAM

After I disabled the Brave Shields image next to the URL textbox for Youtube site, the problem seems dissapeared. Just to inform, I also running AdBlocker Ultimate.

I will try to observe for certain time and see if it is stable.

Current Brave version adopted:
Brave 1.84.141 (Official Build) (64-bit) Chromium: 142.0.7444.176

I’m not having this issue here, but do not use AdBlocker Ultimate. Try temporarily disabling that one as well since without Shields it worked.

If it also works without AdBlocker Ultimate but with shields enabled, it sounds like the two were conflicting.

Previously, I did turned off AdBlocker for Youtube access, but it still behaved the same problem. However, that time I was using Brave 1.84.139 (Official Build) (64-bit) Chromium: 142.0.7444.163

Now, I just turned off AdBlocker Ultimate today under Brave 1.84.141 (Official Build) (64-bit) Chromium: 142.0.7444.176 with Brave Shields enabled, will follow up and see if it is stable.

I will try to turn off Brave Shields and enable the AdBlocker Ultimate to further investigate.

Ok so it seems with AdBlocker Ultimate off, with Shields enabled, ultimately did still cause the issue. Thanks for trying that. It helps verify it wasn’t not only a conflict, but the issue may indeed have something to with shields since only it being turned off works.

This one might be beyond me because I don’t know how the shields work internally to troubleshoot (I’m just a user helping out on my spare time), so hopefully someone can chime in.

Only other thing I can think of to check other than clear cache (skip cookies for now, I hate clearing cookies outright unless needed since Chrome unlike Firefox, cannot selectively remove cookies per domain, just all or nothing), is to try going to Settings > Shields > Content filtering, and see if perhaps any custom YouTube filters were added.

Personally I have one I added:

www.youtube.com##.toast-button.style-scope.yt-notification-action-renderer.paper-toast-open

(This removes the “having trouble playing?” popup because of the adblocker which causes that “fake” popup). That one should work if you have it too and certainly shouldn’t be freezing the thread causing the mouse to lock up with it.

another similar problem encountered, now I am going to totally remove AdBlocker Ultimate and enable the Brave Shields to observer further.

We have Brave shields, no reason to use another Adblocker tbh

So far up until today, there is no issues after removed AdBlocker Ultimate and merely using Brave Shields. Thanks again.
